lollypop

I was blown away and laughing like a school girl, when my son came home and offered me this huge lollypop.

My mind went back in time to clowns and circus events that came to town.
I truly relished the taste of cotton candy and the sticky crunchy feel of these huge lollypops between my teeth.

I think everyone can relate to those days and to the days we Moms also tried our hand at making such things for our kids especially
Candy canes for Christmas trees and such.

As usual , I began to read the ingredients on the label.
It said made in China and then I came across
titanium dioxide.

My heart fell.

http://www.ccohs.ca/headlines/text186.html

I looked it up and found it to be a cancer causing carcinogen found in many of the products we use every day .

"It is widely used to provide whiteness and opacity to products such as paints, plastics, papers, inks, foods, and toothpastes. It is also used in cosmetic and skin care products, and it is present in almost every sunblock, where it helps protect the skin from ultraviolet light."

It is found in dust in places of employment.

In and of itself in small amounts it should be fine but when combined with everything else we use
daily........... well.........

So up I went to tell my son not to eat lollypops unless I make them at home with natural food coloring. He could not believe it and it became a learning experience for him.

I thanked him for the lovely thought.
But now this gorgeous Pop is going into the garbage.

:(

Now I will go and design my own from this
site:
http://sugarbombbakeryblog.wordpress.com/2011/03/25/bunny-lollipops-for-spring/

I think we never grow out of eating our pops. :)

Have a great day!

Wow! Pancakes!!!!

Wow! You really need to be a man who feels really bored, to come up with the stuff he comes up with on his blog. Bridges, giraffes Cranes. His kids must have so much fun with him.
This meal was created because his little girl wanted pancakes and a burger. So he made a pancake burger.

McDonalds and Ihop could learn from this guy. I know I sure did . :)

WHO DUN IT?

Who dun it?
It was not me.
Who ate it? Go look up the tree
Who threw it It was the wind
Who knew it? It never ends

The more you ask,
The less you know

Why bother asking anything at all?

The dog is deaf
The cats a sleep

The hubby's busy counting sheep

The kids are angels
Their fingers point
At empty spaces
Where there is no dirt

And here you are,
Carol Burnett
With buckets mops,
Hey, it's no sweat!

Just pile it on you invisible crones
Tomorrow I'll find you......

Cause nobody's home

:)ALADY'SLIFE

--------------------
Oh Carol, you are such a fool
Darlin he loves you
Though you can be cruel
you hurt him
And you make him cry
But if he leaves you
you will surely die

CHRISTMAS THROW

This is one project that I have been working on.
It was to be a present for my Son.

I love to do things for my Family .
I like to leave things for them to remember me by,
having things from my own Gramma I treasure to this day.
I picture her doing them and I know my kids will do the same.

As it happens, this throw will be even more memorable.
I finished it the day His High School won the Provincials
I will write more about this on another post.

Hope you enjoy the throw The pattern is so easy and enjoyable to do.
I made 45 blocks, one color at a time. 45 yellows, 45 reds, etc..
I used 40 for the throw and then two blocks(for front and back) for each pillow I made two pillows.
It worked out fine. I have one block left for good luck which will probably throw me into beginning another throw with. lol

I CAN'T BELIEVE I MADE GRANNY SQUARES :)

Compassionate Penguins

Did you ever wonder why there are no dead penguins on the ice in
Antarctica- where do they go?

Wonder no more!!!

It is a known fact that the penguin is a very ritualistic bird which Lives an extremely ordered and complex life.

The penguin is very committed to its family and will mate for life, as Well as maintaining a form of compassionate contact with its off spring
Throughout its life.

If a penguin is found dead on the ice surface, other members of the
Family and social circle have been known to dig holes in the ice, using their vestigial wings and beaks, until the hole is deep enough for the Dead bird to be rolled into and buried.

The male penguins then gather in a circle around the fresh grave and
Sing:

"freeze a jolly good fellow."

Hey,,,,, I just send them on!!!

From Here to Maturity

I went to the liquor store to buy a bottle of wine.
Another woman was standing in front of me and the cashier asked her for her ID.

When it came to my turn, she didn't ask me.

Now that is kinda a bummer, I thought, when they stop asking you for your ID.
So, I went home and changed and came back to buy another bottle of wine.

This time she asked me for my ID. :):):)

This is what I looked like.:)

After checking my ID though.........She gave me THE look....

I must have looked really young lol :)

Man ----Woman ---- What?

1. A man will pay $2 for a $1 item he wants. A woman will pay $1 for a $2 item that she doesn't want.
2. A woman worries about the future until she gets a husband. A man never worries about the future until he gets a wife.
3. A successful man is one who makes more money than his wife can spend. A successful woman is one who can find such a man.
4. To be happy with a man you must understand him a lot & love him a little. To be happy with a woman you must love her a lot & not try to understand her at all.
5. Married men live longer than single men - but married men are a lot more willing to die.
6. Any married man should forget his mistakes - there's no use in two people remembering the same thing.
7. Men wake up as good-looking as they went to bed. Women somehow deteriorate during the night.
8. A woman marries a man expecting he will change, but he doesn't. A man marries a woman expecting that she won't change & she does.
9. A woman has the last word in any argument. Anything a man says after that is the beginning of a new argument.
10. There are 2 times when a man doesn't understand a woman - before marriage & after marriage.

Cholo- My Little Bandit - Fell From The Roof.

This is Cholo

He must be only 4 weeks old here.

He still has blue eyes.

I had to use a fish net to dig him out of my rain gutter.

We were afraid of him. He was all huffy with a bloody nose.

He must have had quite a scare poor guy falling 22 feet,

but he soon became so nice we thought of adopting him.

Alas, the laws here, do not permit such things. lol

When my son held him, he said:" I never thought I would ever be doing this

People say Raccoons can become nasty as well as the squirrels who bite off the genitals of

other males trespassing in their territory.

Cholo was very particular as to where he did his business.

He didn't like to do it in the cage and would make such a ruckus

till we took him out.

I had to let him go sooner than I expected . My son had

a Hawaii soccer trip and I went with him because it was rather far,

like off the continent far. lol

We had a wonderful time and stayed at the luxurious Hawaii University dorms, where Obama's Mom and Dad went to school.

The cafeteria had fabulous, buffet type, food where you could eat all you want.

Three meals a day cost us 20 dollars per person.

This is a great deal especially if you have a family.

What I also liked was they had laundry machines which took prepaid laundry credit cards to use so you never had to suffer searching for change.

The ocean was just a few minutes away. There is plenty to do out there. One never gets bored.

Hawaii must have the freshest air in the world.

The last two days, we got rooms at the Hawaiian Village (Hilton) and enjoyed a luau.

It was the best trip ever. :)

Cholo was left in my husbands care.
He saw the Mom in the grass and opened the cage door.

She heard her baby chirping and came to find him.

My husband said that was some awsome reunion.

The Mom first gave him heck, then put her arm around him,

kissed him and then they both walked off into the woods.

Well, that's my today story.:)

Have a beautiful day every one. :)

Two Lonely Tulips

Out of 100 bulbs, these are the only two tulips that survived the squirrels.
They come back every year, to rejuvenate my soul. They are the survivors and in my opinion heroes deserving of a medal. lol

This year, no one even picked them.
The children are growing up in my neighborhood. lol

I went shopping and bought some soup bones because my husband loves soup, especially ox tail soup, which I croc pot all night for the flavor.
They were remodeling in the store and I guess they put the wrong bones in the soup bone section.
I bought them, believing they were beef, when in fact they were pork.
I made my soup and my husband was a bit disappointed when he saw I put in the wrong bones.

But then I was thinking, if they don't make soup out of these bones, what do they make out of them? Then I thought .....maybe it wasn't a mistake.
Maybe no one is buying pork anymore because of the flu so they slipped them into the beef bone section.
I'll just leave it to being an honest mistake. It's a bit too late to return them lol

After my delicious meal in Seattle, I decided to try to make a copy of it at home.
Calamari shrimp and crab were invited into my carosse and then I began shopping for the corn shallots cilantro etc... I can't wait to chop up the corn cobs so they are easier to eat on the plate.
Next to the shop vac guy, who uses his vacuum to suck out anything that falls down the drain, using nylons to cover the vacuum hose, this is another "bestest" idea.

A thought popped into my mind to check where the seafood came from.
They turned the seafood labels around so you couldn’t read them, which I found odd.

I discovered they all came from China. People are getting ill in China from the seafood, so disappointed, I put everything back.
They put the products on special probably because no one is buying from China anymore.
The other products from Portugal and California did not drop in price.

Now I see I have to be extra careful shopping and reading labels is not my forte . I just like to see it's on special and say
Oh Wow! Here's a good deal. :)

I always figured the store would be careful with what it puts on it's shelves but now I have to be more vigilant.
We are all told about sodium nitrite but almost every product I look at, seems to have it.

Shopping gets to be a drag this way.
The more this happens, the more I advocate growing your own food.
It gives your system a break from store bought food, where you have no control of what its grown on or prepared with, before it is shelved.

It gives you a reason to recycle leaves from trees.

This is my thought to share for today.

Peter I am watching the news and hope you are not in the areas they are showing.

Have a beautiful day every one :)

Mom's Perfect Day :)

I hope every one had as splendid a day as I did, spending Mothers Day with their loved ones.
My son finally managed to call after his game to wish me a Happy M Day with good news about winning the second game on Sunday and scoring two goals.:)

This was my Mothers Day present from him , to win this week end.

Thanks Son!:) Wish I was there to see it.

He visited some universities and the tuition is soo high, I don't know how people can afford it.
But he wants to play soccer and I want him educated, so we have to find the fine line between the two lol

My Husband took me to the Crab Pot on Seattle's Waterfront.
We watched some lovely boats and ferries before getting our table.

They cooked Alaskan crab with mussels, clams, shrimp, red skinned potatoes, and sweet corn chopped in 1 inch pieces together and then plopped everything on paper which they covered the table with.
Then they gave you a cutting board, a hammer and rye bread with butter and butter to dip the seafood in. Different but easy to clean up. I used to eat off banana leaves so this was nothing.lol

It was the most delicious crab I ever ate, I must say and I love crab.
Even the lemonade we ordered was just exceptionally perfect.
Not too strong and not too weak and not too sweet. Just PURRRFECT!

Thanks Honey, for a wonderful day!:)

Parking was free on Sunday, which was a treat and we parked across the street under the bridge which was quite convenient for me, since I have a small problem with my knee. lol
(Talk about having the need for tune ups lol
I am trying trigosomine and will know soon if it helps or not.)

After our wonderful meal we exited to our car and with the aid of our Tom Tom, we got to the airport just on time, to pick up the boys. It used a different route, we would otherwise never know how to use.

The days are longer now so it just got dark after 9 pm.
The 3 boys we picked up were all in good spirits and very tired.
They snoozed while we drove back up north towards the border.

We dropped two off and got ourselves home by about 1:30 am. Every one rushed to bed, to dream about our great day and week end.

The only sad news we heard was in the papers with headlines of one local death due to swine flu.
That is really very close to hitting home.

Well ... now we have new things to look forward to.
Keep on plugging as they say. lol

Take care and have a wonderful Monday!!! :)

Why Jobs/Security Is Important? This Could Be You

This is Hastings Street today, in Vancouver.
This is why our Election this year is important.

We need a strong economy so these people can be helped and new people don't end up here. The Green Party supports Legalization of pot as it seems so does the NDP.
It doesn't stop there.

Are Women Superior to Men....?

What kind of brain do you have? There really are big differences between the male and female brain, says Simon Baron-Cohen, director of the Autism Research Centre, Cambridge University.

In his new book, the Essential Difference: Men, Women and the Extreme Male Brain (published by Penguin) Baron-Cohen shows that, indisputably, on average male and female minds are of a slightly different character. Men tend to be better at analysing systems (better systemisers), while women tend to be better at reading the emotions of other people (better empathisers).

Baron-Cohen shows that this distinction arises from biology, not culture.

Cell numbers: men have 4% more brain cells than women, and about 100 grams more of brain tissue. Many women have asked me why men need more brain tissue in order to get the same things done.

Cellular connections: even though a man seems to have more brain cells, it is reported that women have more dendritic connections between brain cells.

Corpus collosum size: it is reported that a woman's brain has a larger corpus collusum, which means women can transfer data between the right and left hemisphere faster than men. Men tend to be more left brained, while women have greater access to both sides.

Language: for men, language is most often just in the dominant hemisphere (usually the left side), but a larger number of women seem to be able to use both sides for language. This gives them a distinct advantage. If a woman has a stroke in the left front side of the brain, she may still retain some language from the right front side. Men who have the same left sided damage are less likely to recover as fully.

Limbic size: bonding/nesting instincts - current research has demonstrated that females, on average, have a larger deep limbic system than males. This gives females several advantages and disadvantages. Due to the larger deep limbic brain women are more in touch with their feelings, they are generally better able to express their feelings than men. They have an increased ability to bond and be connected to others (which is why women are the primary caretakers for children - there is no society on earth where men are primary caretakers for children). Females have a more acute sense of smell, which is likely to have developed from an evolutionary need for the mother to recognize her young. Having a larger deep limbic system leaves a female somewhat more susceptible to depression, especially at times of significant hormonal changes such as the onset of puberty, before menses, after the birth of a child and at menopause. Women attempt suicide three times more than men. Yet, men kill themselves three times more than women, in part, because they use more violent means of killing themselves (women tend to use overdoses with pills while men tend to either shoot or hang themselves) and men are generally less connected to others than are women. Disconnection from others increases the risk of completed suicides.

Rattler Lyrics.

Rattler was a good old dog, blind as he could be
But ev'ry night at suppertime, I believe that dog could see

Here Rattler, Here Rattler Here!
Call Old Rattler from the barn
Here, Rattler, Here!

Grandma had a yellow hen, she set her eggs you know
Set her on some buzzard eggs, she hatched out one old crow.

Here Rattler, Here. Here Rattler Here!
Call Old Rattler from the barn
Here, Rattler, Here!

Grandpa had a muley cow, muley when she was born,
Took a jaybird forty years, to fly from horn to horn

Here Rattler, Here. Here Rattler here!
Call Old Rattler from the barn
Here, Rattler, Here!

Late one night I heard him howl, I thought he'd treed a coon,
When I went out to see what's up, he was barkin' at the moon!

Here Rattler, Here. Here Rattler Here
Call Old Rattler from the barn
Here, Rattler, Here!

Now old Rattler's dead and gone, where all good dogs go
You keep playin' the dog yourself,
you'll be goin' there too I know!

Here Rattler, Here. Here Rattler Here
Call Old Rattler from the barn
Here, Rattler, Here!

Mango Seed or Picasso?

Art is all about perception and feelings and sometimes when I am looking at a piece of abstract art.

I wonder where the person gets all these ideas…… to make the lines the way they are made and the colors and

the whole composition in the end, is what the person is trying to express.

I like to look at rocks I pick up from sea shores and upon investigation, I can see stories in them,

pictures of something an artist like Picasso would paint or Chagall.

I am not the only one doing this sort of thing, trying to make something out of nothing . There was a woman who collected odd shaped chips. and there were others who have seen the Virgin Mary on walls and places where only nature could paint them. Our own church had an Icon which cried tears and we all went to see it.

This Icon is taken from church to church so it isn’t like the sun hits it a certain way or water somehow gets to it because no matter where they take it and hang it, it does the same thing.

Yesterday I ate a Mango. I never seem to be able to help myself from cutting into the outer part of the seed and taking it out to help it root and grow. I also like it because it is shaped like an ear .

Yesterday’s seed was special in that it had lots of pictures in it.Sometimes they over lap like some of these psychological shots, where they ask you what do you see , a young woman or an old one, a vase or a face?

I will try to take a picture to see if you can see what I see.

It makes food so much more appetizing and exciting, like opening up a fortune cookie,

you never know what you will find. I am sure it will continue to change the pictures as it dries because last night it had different ones.

Since I took these shots a B and an e popped up.

At the top left hand corner is a small head with a womans body. Below a flying dragon and horse followed by many faces.

The right bottom hand side has a very clear face and on the top right hand side you see the beginning of what looks like a mans chest and belly button. It may come out clearer as the seed keeps drying.Turning the seed around upside down, gives you new perceptions of other pictures.

:)

JOKE:

Can ColdWater Clean Dishes?
This is for all the germ conscious folks that worry about using cold water to clean.
John went to visit his 90 year old grandfather in a very secluded, rural area of Saskatchewan ..
After spending a great evening chatting the night away, The next morning John's grandfather prepared breakfast of bacon, eggs and toast.
However, John noticed a film like substance on his plate, and questioned his grandfather asking,
'Are these plates clean?'
His grandfather replied,
'They're as clean as cold water can get em. Just you go ahead and finish your meal, Sonny!'
For lunch the old man made hamburgers. Again, John was concerned about the plates as his appeared to have tiny specks around the edge that looked like dried egg and asked,
'Are you sure these plates are clean?'
Without looking up the old man said,
'I told you before, Sonny, those dishes are as clean as cold water can get them. Now don't you fret, I don't want to hear another word about it!'
Later that afternoon, John was on his way to a nearby town and as he was leaving, his grandfather's dog started to growl, and wouldn't let him pass.
John yelled and said,
'Grandfather, your dog won't let me get to my car'.
Without diverting his attention from the football game he was watching on TV, the old man shouted.
'Coldwater, go lay down now, yah hear me!'

Joss Sticks and Wild Cinnamon

Joss Sticks are a very big part of Asian life.
They come in all sizes ranging from bamboo thin, sticks, to huge thick sticks which burn for months in temples.
They are used in daily prayers as well as Ghost festivals and funerals.

The name Joss comes from a household deity god named Joss.
They are not all made the same. Some have clay and perfumes in them which are not good for the health.

I came across one family joss stick business in Singapore, which went public with this art because no one wanted to continue it in the family. They called it a dying art.

They made joss sticks out of wild cinnamon saw dust. But they did even more.

They would add water to the wild cinnamon saw dust and then kneed it like dough.
It became exactly like dough, on which they then used a rolling pin, to roll out into a nice thin piece, and then proceeded to make statues of anything you liked from Chinese warriors on horses, different deities, animals etc....
The products, when dry, go back to the original wood state.

They then shellac it and you take it home.
I have a few pieces in boxes I still have to dig out but I found this wild cinnamon wood art to be quite extraordinary.
The cinnamon saw dust had natural glue in it which allowed it to be used in this manner.

We took some home to make Christmas decorations for our tree. It was fun to do.

Cinnamon has a wide variety of uses including medicinal. The red cinnamon is very good and many Chinese drink it in tea mixed with honey or apply it as a paste onto the skin.

2 tsp of honey to one tsp of cinnamon is used as medicinal aids to cure heart disease, arthritis, colds, hair loss, bladder infections, tooth ache, upset stomach, gas ,cholesterol, weight loss, skin infections, pimples, cancer, bad breath, fatigue, immune system, infertility.
Hot water is always used to combat thirst out there, as opposed to cold and hot water also dilutes fats in your system, so they are flushed out.

Nature provides us with soo many interesting things to discover . Trained, old people, carry these old arts holding answers to many secrets doctors are still ignorant of.

It is too bad the young do not value the teachings of their old ancestors.
The info should be carried on throughout time as it can be useful one day to know.

In the meantime I am glad to have learned this wonderful art of wild cinnamon statue making and search to find more info about this wild cinnamon tree, to make saw dust out of.

The old people in Singapore, are quite upset with their kids, in that they began using knives and forks as opposed to chop sticks.

They constantly pointed at foreigners, saying we had more respect for their traditions than their own kids did.
I just love chop sticks because it makes you eat food one piece at a time, so you enjoy it a lot more.
Plus its fun to be able to hold food in a different way.
