Onion - Savior or Killer

The Power of the Onion is amazing and here is what some people have concluded.

PS: If you have a question whether a mushroom that you picked is safe to eat, just place it in a pan of water with a chunk of onion leave for a couple hours & if the onion turns black the mushroom is poisonous

ONIONS -- Who Would've Thunk it

In 1919 when the flu killed 40 million people, there was a Doctor who visited many farmers to see if he could help them combat the flu. Many of the farmers and their family had contracted it, and many died.

The doctor came upon one farmer, and to his surprise, everyone in the household was very healthy. When the doctor asked what the farmer was doing that was different, the wife replied that she had placed an unpeeled onion in a dish in the rooms of the home (probably only two rooms back then). The doctor couldn't believe it and asked if he could have one of the onions and place it under the microscope. She gave him one, and when he did this, he did find the flu virus in the onion. It obviously absorbed the bacteria, therefore, keeping the family healthy.

Now, I heard this story from my hairdresser in AZ. She said that several years ago many of her employees were coming down with the flu and so were many of her customers. The next year she placed several bowls with onions around in her shop. To her surprise, none of her staff got sick. It must work... (And no, she is not in the onion business.)

The moral of the story is, buy some onions and place them in bowls around your home. If you work at a desk, place one or two in your office or under your desk or even on top somewhere.. Try it and see what happens. We did it last year, and we never got the flu.

If this helps you and your loved ones from getting sick, all the better. If you do get the flu, it just might be a mild case...Whatever, what have you to lose? Just a few bucks on onions!!!

Now there is a P.S. to this, for I sent it to a friend in Oregon who regularly contributes material to me on health issues. She replied with this most interesting experience about onions: Thanks for the reminder. I don't know about the farmer's story...but I do know that I contracted pneumonia, and needless to say I was very ill. I came across an article that said to cut both ends off an onion. Put one end on a fork, and then place the forked end into an empty jar...placing the jar next to the sick patient at night. It said the onion would be black in the morning from the germs. Sure enough, it happened just like that...the onion was a mess, and I began to feel better.

Another thing I read in the article was that onions and garlic placed around the room saved many from the black plague years ago. They have powerful antibacterial, antiseptic properties.

This is the other note: LEFTOVER ONIONS ARE POISONOUS! I have used an onion which has been left in the fridge. Sometimes I don't use a whole one at one time, so I save the other half for later. Now with this info, I have changed my mind. I will buy smaller onions in the future.

I had the wonderful privilege of touring Mullins Food Products, makers of mayonnaise. Mullins is huge, and is owned by 11 brothers and sisters in the Mullins family. My friend, Jeanne, is the CEO. Questions about food poisoning came up, and I wanted to share what I learned from a chemist The guy who gave us our tour is named Ed. He's one of the brothers. Ed is a chemistry expert and is involved in developing most of the sauce formula. He's even developed sauce formula for McDonald's. Keep in mind that Ed is a food chemistry whiz.

During the tour, someone asked if we really needed to worry about mayonnaise. People are always worried that mayonnaise will spoil. Ed's answer will surprise you. Ed said that all commercially-made mayo is completely safe. "It doesn't even have to be refrigerated. No harm in refrigerating it, but it's not really necessary." He explained that the pH in mayonnaise is set at a point that bacteria could not survive in that environment. He then talked about the quintessential picnic, with the bowl of potato salad sitting on the table and how everyone blames the mayonnaise when someone gets sick.

Ed says that when food poisoning is reported, the first thing the officials look for is when the 'victim' last ate ONIONS and where those onions came from (in the potato salad?). Ed says it's not the mayonnaise (as long as it's not homemade mayo) that spoils in the outdoors. It's probably the onions, and if not the onions, it's the POTATOES.

He explained, onions are a huge magnet for bacteria, especially uncooked onions.. You should never plan to keep a portion of a sliced onion. He says it's not even safe if you put it in a zip-lock bag and put it in your refrigerator.

It's already contaminated enough just by being cut open and out for a bit, that it can be a danger to you (and doubly watch out for those onions you put on your hotdogs at the baseball park!)

Ed says if you take the leftover onion and cook it like crazy you'll probably be okay, but if you slice that leftover onion and put it on your sandwich, you're asking for trouble. Both the onions and the moist potato in a potato salad will attract and grow bacteria faster than any commercial mayonnaise will even begin to break down.

So, how's that for news? Take it for what you will. I (the author) am going to be very careful about my onions from now on. For some reason, I see a lot of credibility coming from a chemist and a company that produces millions of pounds of mayonnaise every year.

Also, dogs should never eat onions.. Their stomachs cannot metabolize onions.

Please remember it is dangerous to cut onions and try to use it to cook the next day. It becomes highly poisonous for even a single night and creates toxic bacteria which may cause adverse stomach infections because of excess bile secretions and even food poisoning.

Those Were The Days and then some

Be sure to refill the ice trays, we're going to have company.
Watch for the postman, I want to get this letter to Willie in the mail today.
Quit slamming the screen door when you go out!
Be sure and pull the windows down when you leave, it looks like a shower is coming up.

Don't forget to wind the clock before you go to bed.
Wash your feet before you go to bed, you've been playing outside all day barefooted.

Why can't you remember to roll up your britches legs? Getting them caught in the bicycle chain so many times is tearing them up.
You have torn the knees out of that pair of pants so many times there is nothing left to put a patch on.

Don't you go outside with your school clothes on.
Go comb your hair, it looks like the rats have nested in it all night.
Be sure and pour the cream off the top of the milk when
You open the new bottle.
Take that empty bottle to the store with you so you won't have to
Pay a deposit on another one.

Put a dish towel over the cake so the flies won't get on it.
Quit jumping on the floor! I have a cake in the oven and you are going to make it fall if you don't quit.
Let me know when the Fuller Brush man comes by, I need to get a few things from him.
You boys stay close by, the car may not start and I will need you to help push it off.

There's a dollar in my purse, get 5 gallons of gas when you go to town.
Open the back door and see if we can get a breeze through here, it is getting hot.

You can walk to the store, it won't hurt you to get some exercise.
Don't sit too close to the TV, It is hard on your eyes.

If you pull that stunt again, I am going to wear you out!
Don't lose that button, I'll sew it back on after a while.

Wash under your neck before you come to the table, you have beads of dirt and sweat all under there.
Get out from under the sewing machine, pumping it messes up the thread.
Be sure and fill the lamps this morning so we don't have to do that tonight in the dark.

Here, take this old magazine to the toilet with you when you go, we are almost out of paper out there.
Go out to the well and draw a bucket of water so I can wash dishes.
Don't turn the radio on now, I want the battery to be up when the Grand Ole Opry comes on.

No, I don't have 10 cents for you to go to the show. Do you think money grows on trees?
Eat those turnips, they'll make you big and strong like your daddy.
That dog is NOT coming in this house! I don't care how cold it is out there, dogs don't stay in the house.

Sit still! I'm trying to get your hair cut straight and you keep moving.
Hush your mouth, I don't want to hear words like that, I'll wash your mouth out with soap!
It is time for your system to be cleaned out. I am going to give you a dose of castor oil tonight.
If you get a spanking in school and I find out about it, you'll get another one when you get home.

Quit crossing your eyes, they will get stuck that way.
Soak your foot in this pan of kerosene so that bad cut won't get infected.
When you take your driving test, don't forget to signal each turn.
Left arm straight out the window for a left turn;
Left arm bent up at the elbow for a right turn;
And straight down to the side of the door when you are going to stop.

It's: 'Yes Ma'am' and 'No Ma'am' to me, young man, and don't you forget it!
Y'all come back now, ya hear.

Bring back any memories? It sure did for me!

Encounters at the end of the WORLD

Posted by Picasa

Multitasking,
I watched the program, "Encounters at the Edge of the World" where a small penguin decided to separate, from the group heading inland to lay and hatch eggs, and walk out into the vastness of the Antarctic where there was nothing but death waiting for him.

The beautiful, serene,mystic, Antarctic.
Scientists studying this piece of solitude, found that people are facing the same end as the dinosaurs did.

They said creatures that live under the water, are menacing and dangerous and this may have forced creatures to come out of the ocean onto land, to escape death.

They found such things as nutrinoes, which go through everything and are needed to create the basic elements.

Nutrinoes are so small, they can go through everything, including ourselves, which makes us a part of everything around us.

The scientists know how to calculate them but not see them.
They called them, like something out of the spirit world.

The only way to see them would be in a blue lightening light of maybe 1/100millionth of a second.

Alan Watts was quoted as saying something like:
Through our eyes the universe is perceiving itself Through our ears the universe is listening to its causing harmonies We are witness through which the universe becomes conscious of its glory” -----------------------------------------

I have long believed that all that we are, was begot from the universe, through which we listen, when it comes to us. This is why Bethoven could hear music even when he was deaf. This is where we got our Picasso's and for all we know our Bible is enriched with messages sent from heaven to our prophets. And why not if we are all one?
God had said one thing we are closer to coming to understand. He said I AM and because he is,
we are.

Watts said it in reverse and this makes a lot of sense because we make noise and send messages back out there for some one/thing to hear.

Watts, if I am not mistaken, was a philosopher and studied a lot of Buddhism.

Can you imagine the messages, waves of explosions, fire and hurricanes,we send out into the universe?
If everything is attached to these waves in nutrinoes, then for sure man will live forever and rebirth is and will occur on other planets welcoming life be it in dust, minerals or ice water......
We do not need to be conscious of our existence to know or understand that we are.
We suffer, because we are conscious and it is this consciousness that creates differences like between good and evil, which otherwise would not exist. Life is about change and change does not consist of good or evil. Like everything else, it just is.

What happens, knowing all things go full circle, when all the noise we make in waves, comes back and attacks earth? Would Earth be able to withstand the echoes from the past or would they cause it to explode like a soprano's voice shatters glass?
Would this be good, evil or just change that needed to take place for no reason other than it just did.

It may be advantageous to our world, if we lived quieter lives or maybe it really doesn't matter at all.

Maybe by playing more symphonies, the universe will listen and become conscious of its' Glory.......and ours.

Have a good one!!!

Christmas Tatty

And as far as Tats go, this tat is the big Meow!

He reminds me of Garfield a little and I am sure he will delight in all the Christmas goodies hanging on the tree.

What lurks behind those sad, bored eyes?

Is he sitting under Cat nip mistleto?

Is he watching a little mouse scampering around a piece of cheese?

Or maybe he's Santa's helper making sure every one is asleep when Santa unloads his presents under the tree.
He might be an elf making sure no one steels the presents

Maybe he is a present to some wonderful boy or girl?

Or maybe he is watching the train go round and round the train track getting him sleepier and sleepier?

It could be he is sitting indulging in the aroma of pine needles, cinnamon buns and scented candles Or smelling the sweet apple bark crackling in a warm fireplace.

A shot of cherry brandy might be making him feel warm and fuzzy.

Or maybe he doesn't believe in Christmas.

My adult children do because they love Santa. He only comes to those who believe in the love, magic and spirit of Christmas.
And Christmas is about love and the joy of birth and giving.

Whatever is behind those eyes, I am sure it's about the wonders of Christmas and how nice it is making him feel just now.

Yup

He is exactly like Garfield.
Bored lazy and happy.

Cousins?:)

SOUPA MAN

Posted by Picasa

My Husband loves his oxtail soup and his vine leaves.God forbid anyone touches his pots. He hugs them and keeps them close. No one else gets a chance to eat his favorite meals. Its funny. (He's joking of course).

So I made up this song for him to the

Honey in the morning Honey in the evening Honey at supper time.

You’re my little honey and I love you all the time. tune.

Remember that song.?

Well I sing:

Soupa in the morning soupa in the evening Soupa at supper time

I just love my soup and I hug the pot all the time

I put my arms around it and smell it till I die

I will eat this soup forever till the end of time

Soupa in the morning soupa in the evening soupa at supper time

I will eat this soup forever cause the smell is very fine.

Loll

My hubby liked this song and we sang it together this morning loll

That’s our personal special song.:)

Little Johnny....

Prayer

Little Johnny and his family were having Sunday dinner at his grandmother's house. Everyone was seated around the table as the food was being served.

When little Johnny received his plate he started eating right away.

"Johnny, wait until we say our prayer."

"I don't have to," the boy replied.

"Of course you do," his mother insisted. "We say a prayer before eating at
our house."

"That's at our house," Johnny explained, "but this is Grandma's house, and she knows how to cook."

ONLY IN CANADA

Swimming with polar bears ?
There's a place in the world where children can swim among polar bears.
Since July 2004, in the little town of Cochrane , northern Ontario ,
you can visit the Polar Bear Habitat.

It's a kind of local zoo where people can live the once-in-a-lifetime
experience of an outdoor swim with polar bears.
Of course, the humans are in a different pool, separated from the bears'
habitat by just a layer of glass.

Can you see the water drops now?

She Walks in Beauty

She walks in beauty like the night
of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that's best of dark and bright
meets in her aspect and her eyes:
Thus mellow'd to that tender light
which heaven to gaudy day denies.

One shade the more, one ray the less,
had half impair'd the nameless grace
which waves in every raven tress,
or softly lightens o'er her face -
where thoughts serenely sweet express
how pure, how dear their dwelling - place.

And on that cheek, and o'er that brow,
so soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
the smiles that win, the tints that glow,
but tells in days of goodness spent,
a mind at peace with all below,
a heart whose love is innocent.

George Gordon Byron

For some love is blind and for others,
love is a blushing pink, or
pure as the stars in the night.
But alas music plays and it gets hot.
Love shows its true passion, its' secrets, its' twists and turns.
As you bare your breasts and your heart, love is finally yours.
It is invincible.
It cannot be denied or forgotten for
it will burn into all who touch it,
leaving its' mark.

Beware of love
Once smitten......it is.....
for ever.

ALL’S FAIR IN LOVE AND WAR

Toda Ona Vida

To women who dream to men who dream
but mainly
To those who dare to build a world with their eyes wide open.
Two beggars are sitting side by side on a street in Rome. One has a cross in front of him; the other one the Star of David. Many people go by and look at both beggars, but only put money into the hat of the beggar sitting behind the cross. A priest comes by, stops and watches throngs of people giving money to the beggar behind the cross, but none give to the beggar behind the Star of David. Finally, the priest goes over to the beggar behind the Star of David and says,"My poor fellow, don't you understand? This is a Catholic country, this city is the seat of Catholicism. People aren't going to give you money if you sit there with a Star of David in front of you, especially when you're sitting beside a beggar who has a cross. In fact, they would probably give to him just out of spite."
The beggar behind the Star of David listened to the priest, turned to the other beggar with the cross and said: "Moishe, look who's trying to teach the Goldstein brothers about marketing."

Life’s like that.

LA Rochelle, France.....

La Rochelle is a city in southwestern France and a seaport on the Bay of Biscay, a part of the Atlantic Ocean. It is the capital of the Charente-Maritime department.
The city is connected to the Île de Ré by a 2.9 km (1.8 mi) bridge - the longest in France - completed on May 19, 1988. Its harbour opens into a protected strait, the Pertuis d'Antioche.

La Rochelle harbour in 1762. Joseph Vernet. Musée de la Marine.

Because of its western location, which saved days of sailing time, La Rochelle enjoyed successful fishing in the western Atlantic and trading with the New World, which served to counterbalance the disadvantage of not being at the mouth of a river (useful for shipping goods to and from the interior). Its Protestant shipowning and merchant class prospered in the sixteenth century until the Wars of Religion devastated the city.

The period following the wars was a prosperous one, marked by intense exchanges with the New World (Nouvelle France in Canada, and the Antilles). La Rochelle became very active in triangular trade with the New World, dealing in the slave trade with Africa, sugar trade with plantations of the Antilles, and fur trade with Canada. This was a period of high artistic, cultural and architectural achievements for the city.

Robert de La Salle departed from La Rochelle, France, on July 24, 1684, with the objective of setting up a colony at the mouth of the Mississippi, eventually establishing Fort Saint Louis in Texas.

The city eventually lost its trade and prominence during the decades spanning the Seven Years' War, the French revolution and the Napoleonic Wars. During that period France lost many of the territorial possessions it had in the new World, and also saw a strong decrease in its sea power in the continuing conflicts with Britain, ultimately diminishing the role of such harbours as La Rochelle.

In 1809, the Battle of the Basque Roads took place near La Rochelle, in which an English fleet defeated the French Fleet of the Atlant
