In the Morning Light - Two Versions

Totally flattered, he replied, "No, dear they haven't."
At that point she yelled, "Then what the heck gave you THAT idea at the party tonight?"
Dad: That happens in most countries, son.

If Lies were Truths
Marcus Aurelius
I love to collect post cards and this is an old one I found in my Farmhouse Kitchen Diary.
It has a collection of recipes suitable for the time of month.
Do you know why a car's WINDSHIELD is so large & the rear view
mirror is so small?
Because our PAST is not as important as our FUTURE. So, look ahead
and move on.
--------------------------------------
If lies were truths and truths were lies
The world would surely not survive
No one would know which one was which
The gray half truth, half lie could switch
Yet with the rise of each bright sun
I find myself excused by one
Perfected in the light of gray
Where truth and lie they meet half way.
I stamp my feet and pull my hair
How could anyone so dare
To trick me in this half wit way
Keep me in limbo so I stay
I know the difference in truth lies
That it is grounded while the other flies
So easy in its time of mirth, while so
Sombre in the eye of truth
When truth meets lie upon a bridge
It leads all men and beasts to twitch
All lie in dread of what's to come
Will victor be a liars son?
Of course not TRUTH is here to stay!
Like black and White, it's clear as day!
The bugles roar out proclamations
And liars spew out insinuations
The course of time is thus confronted
And truth insists it can't be stunted
For if it easily is swayed
All liars, they will have their way
You hold yourself in great esteem
In face of lies you want to scream
I'll tell you truth
I'll wheel and deal.I'll mimic ,joke, I'll even steal.
But in the end I promise you, that my self worth,
Will be the end of you.
In many truths you tell you'll see
You won't get far without little ol me.
Both men and beasts stood all confused
In face of lies who face the truths
And to this day you'll see them there
On bridge on high with long white hair
A world caught in time remains in limbo
Between truth and lie it's not so simple
The world would surely not survive
If lies were truths and truths were lies.
No one would know which one was which
The gray half truth, half lie could switch.

New Years Fortune?
This is a little piece I did in chalk, I happen to enjoy.
I love old stories and this one is about a fortune teller
who tells young people their fortunes on New Years Eve.
This woman has an air of mystery about her as she smiles with a lit candle,
surrounded by snow flakes. Look into her eyes.
Will I be happy?
Will I be rich?
Will I marry?
Will I travel?
What is my destiny?
Ask the Lady and she will disclose to you, your fortune, through either her crystal ball or cards, which never lie.
May good fortune happiness and joy come your way, as we come closer to the New Year!

Old Souls
No matter how many times this picture is drawn, or sketched,
I don't think people will ever get tired of it.
These artists seem to capture each generation with equal fascination.
You want to find out all you can about these people.
Who they were, what they did and what inspired them to create with such passion.
They drew their family members and their friends and just people in general
and here we are, years later, looking and wondering,
what were these people thinking at that moment?
Seeing a similar, so familiar face, in todays' world,
a fragment from the past...
then brings forth this feeling of
deja vous.
You've been there and done that before and you know because
you've seen it in the canvasses, the souls of the old masters.
:)
An out-of-towner accidentally drives his car into a deep ditch on the side of a country road. Luckily a farmer happened by with his big old horse named Benny. The man asked for help. The farmer said Benny could pull his car out. So he backed Benny up and hitched Benny to the man's car bumper. Then he yelled, "Pull, Nellie, pull." Benny didn't move. Then he yelled, "Come on, pull Ranger." Still, Benny didn't move. Then he yelled really loud, "Now pull, Fred, pull hard." Benny just stood. Then the farmer nonchalantly said, "Okay, Benny, pull." Benny pulled the car out of the ditch. The man was very appreciative but curious. He asked the farmer why he called his horse by the wrong name three times. The farmer said, "Oh, Benny is blind, and if he thought he was the only one pulling he wouldn't even try."
"Will I ever be able to race my horse again" the owner asked the vet. The vet replied, "You certainly will, and you'll probably beat her too!"
-------------------------
------------------
Did you hear about the race horse that was so late coming in? They had to pay the jockey overtime!
------------------
You said this horse could jump as high as a ten foot fence and he can't jump at all.
Well neither can a fence!

Man on a Mission
This is a small acrylic on paper painting.
Again, I saw this somewhere and decided to try to paint
the man. He turned out rather well, I think.
He would look very good on an egg,
Symbolic of a Biblical event.
The moon seems to pop up in many paintings.
I guess people all look up in wonder.
But we can only see so far.

My Moma Loves Me.
If you let the rock speak to you, it's amazing what it can tell you.
This particular rock had the lines to make either a cat or a Pekanese.
So I followed them and the result was this.
I am letting it dry and then will do some touch ups and varnish.
I think its cute and makes a nice post card.
Trouble is....... this rock has another story in the back of it.
Hmmmm ......always a dilemma..... even with rocks.

Our Home
One wishes one could enter this world just to see what it would be like in real life.
I do not know who made this piece.
Let us not be so bold as to laugh and envy
Let us not snivel, nor drink of blood
Let us not conquer, not be conquered
For this is beneath any chivalrous romp
Let us dream of ideals and utopia
Let us plan for more generous days
Let our nights pass in deep, un stung memories
Of sweet tales that our kinsmen have lived and passed
Let us not sit and be silent
Let us not weep in remorse
Let us always stand tall and joyous
Waiting for night fall’s repose
The white snowy peaks of our mountains
Reflect the halo s of all of our souls
As we wait for God, here, to notice
That our home is the best in the world.

Winter Evening
I obtained this picture from a postcard I liked. We had winters like this heavy with snow and we'd go out in the evening as a family, to throw snow balls and make snow men. I especially waited for a night like this to walk and meet my Mom at work and accompany her home.
It would always be so comforting to see the lights in the window and then to look forward to warming our feet inside by the warm fireplace with a cup of hot chocolate.
In this painting I am changing things like adding mountains
etc.... To suit my own vision of this particular evening.
When I was a kid, my friend's Dad painted bears on a log in a forest, from a post card .
It's a well known post card and I've seen the original painting in the store, but
because I watched this man paint it, it secretly meant a lot to me to see it on his wall even if it was a copy,
I loved those bears and often thought to paint them myself so I could have something similar but so far I have not reached the bear painting stage. lol
I am mainly into kids dogs and horses and of course soccer.
In any event I work slow because I am the sort of painter that requires a special hobby room
to do this sort of stuff. This way every time you walk by you can look at it and see what it needs.
Then you can work on five of them at the same time and the work becomes interesting. lol
It's a bit different from the 20 foot w x 10 foot h props I used to draw for my sons drama plays.
They took up my whole wall in the living room and everything had to be done from scratch,
starting from sewing of the material together, to making hooks to hang it and then the painting itself.
It was hard work but I had so much fun making it and it felt so good when the parents would come and stand in front of it for pictures after the play was over, with the kids.
That's mainly why I did it and this was my reward.

Proverbomania
murialsartblog.files.wordpress.com/
Go Netherlands !!!
They can almost smell Soccer Victory in South Africa.!!!!
At first glance, you may think the painting simply illustrates the people of the Netherlands. That was what I thought. But as I looked into this painting, Netherlandish Proverbs (1559), painted by Pieter Bruegel the Elder in Staatliche Museen, Berlin (now Gemaldegaerie, Berlin), I learned that every individual, object, and action all have a satirical significance. There is said to be over 100 proverbs illustrated in this painting, in which some are still used in the Netherlands and the Dutch.
Some of the proverbs illustrated in the paintings are….
- To bang one’s head against a brick wall.
Which means to try to achieve the impossible
- The world is turned upside down.
Which means everything is the opposite of what it should be
- She puts the blue cloak on her husband.
Which means she deceives him - More at the link above.

To choose between the devil and the deep blue sea. =
What do you do when you are faced with two equally bad alternatives /choices?
Does one live to eat or eat to live?= socrates
Man is not about just enjoying food but about having a divine purpose and destiny with his creator
People hate what they do not understand.
So does this mean you will not hate once you understand?
I guess it is the same thing as saying don’t judge a man until you walk in his shoes. Then I guess it's ok lol
Isn't this fun???

Play it again Sam

One of my favorite actresses,
played in the movie Casa Blanca, taking place in Nazi occupied, Morocco.
It’s a WW2 movie where Bogart is torn between his love for her and his virtue where doing the right thing was important.
Should he keep his love or help her leave with her resistance leader husband.
She said of Bogart: “I kissed him but I didn’t know him.”
Play It Again Sam
by Joe Halli
Flim flam Play it again Sam
Sing about the good old days
When all we knew was love
Flim flam What's the matter Sam
Have you long forgotten happiness
And what are you thinking of?
Cause the good old days
Are only good 'cause we forgot the bad
And the happy times and pleasant thoughts
Somehow block out the sad
Cause the smiles outlast the tears
And the hopes outlast the fears
And nothing outlasts the cheers
Of the friends you always had
As the past and future converge on now
I look at Sam and where I am
And try to picture exactly how
I'll see this scene in some time
Will I see his frown, the rain-soaked ground
The remnants of this dying town?
Or will a pleasant memory grow
In my flawed but fertile mind
Chorus
It's in the Crystal stars and the sunrise
Perfect hair and twinklin' eyes
A place of life where no one dies
A perfect world built on lies.
Flim flamPlay it again Sam
Sing about the good old days
For sorrow needs no song
Flim flam
It's alright Sam

The Dancer Danced......Or Did She?

One leg is planted firmly on the ground while the other is lifted.
Examining this picture closely, will relate to you the fact that raised leg could be either
the left or the right leg.
We cannot quite be sure.
It is how our brain perceives it to be.
Most people I’ve asked, see it as the right leg.
The same with words.
We have words like
Truth
Innocence
Lies
Justice
Peace
Love
Dance etc…..
What do they all mean?
These words do not exist, in the same temperance with say, a word like chair or a person.
You can’t see, touch, feel, taste, smell, truth for example.
We give meaning to words such as these, from our interpretation and understanding of them.
We argue and fight between each other, because our interpretation and understanding of these words is different.
A word like chair , water, tree, requires no language.
If you point to a tree, people understand it’s a tree.
If we were to read Nietzche, who is a nihilist,
dictionary meaning:
total rejection of established laws and institutions.
anarchy, terrorism, or other revolutionary activity.
total and absolute destructiveness, esp. toward the world at large and including oneself: the power-mad nihilism that marked Hitler's last years.
Philosophy. .
an extreme form of skepticism: the denial of all real existence or the possibility of an objective basis for truth.
nothingness or nonexistence.
(sometimes initial capital letter) the principles of a Russian revolutionary group, active in the latter half of the 19th century, holding that existing social and political institutions must be destroyed in order to clear the way for a new state of society and employing extreme measures, including terrorism and assassination.
annihilation of the self, or the individual consciousness, esp. as an aspect of mystical
experience.),
He would say: “Jesus says, I am truth.” He interprets this to mean that truth is discovered within yourself, by the meaning you give to it and this is obtained through the life you lead.
We create it, to to keep ourselves grounded . Truth is the house we built to live in, where we feel safe, secure and therefore powerful.
The safer we feel, the more powerful we are.
Man has a desire for power but he also has fear (absence from power)
To gain power, we give ourselves self imposed laws like morals ethics and values, to obtain self control.
POWER = SELF IMPOSED MORALS = SELF CONTROL = POWER
You see this going full circle in that the more self control you have, the more powerful you are and this then, makes you happier.
(Today we see unhappiness because people do drugs, drink and find excuses to lose self control)
The more you resistlosing self control, using the self imposed morals, the more power you have over your life and as you continue to "overpower" yourself,
cause that's hard to do, you become a Super man...............And closer to Jesus and God.
Having said this, we go back to the question of the Dancer and truth and
the lifted leg, is it ............the left ........or the right?
Only the Dancer knows.
We are also under the mistaken assumption that all men want to be Supermen, since they want "rights".
The question, inside the labyrinth of interpretation is, do they?

The 16th Century revisited

Baths consisted of a big tub filled with hot water. The man of the house had the privilege of the nice clean water, then all the other sons and men, then the women and finally the children. Last of all the babies. By then the water was so dirty you could actually lose someone in it. Hence the saying, Don’t throw the baby out with the Bath water..

Houses had thatched roofs-thick straw-piled high, with no wood underneath.. It was the only place for animals to get warm, so all the cats and other small animals (mice, bugs) lived in the roof When it rained it became slippery and sometimes the animals would slip and fall off the roof. Hence the saying . It’s raining cats and dogs.

There was nothing to stop things from falling into the house..This posed a real problem in the bed-room where bugs and other drop-pings could mess up your nice clean bed. Hence, a bed with big posts and a sheet hung over the top afforded some protection.. That’s how canopy beds came into existence.

The floor was dirt. Only the wealthy had something other than dirt. Hence the saying, Dirt poor. The wealthy had slate floors that would get slippery in the winter when wet, so they spread thresh (straw) on floor to help keep their footing. As the winter wore on, they added more thresh until, when you opened the door, it would all start slipping outside. A piece of wood was
placed in the entranceway. Hence the saying a thresh hold.

In those old days, they cooked in the kitchen with a big kettle that always hung over the fire. Every day they lit the fire and added things to the pot. They ate mostly vegetables and did not get much meat. They would eat the stew for dinner, leaving left-overs in the pot to get cold overnight and then start over the next day. Sometimes stew had food in it that had been
there for quite a while. Hence the rhyme, Peas porridge hot, peas porridge cold, peas porridge in the pot nine days old..

Sometimes they could obtain pork, which made them feel quite special. When visitors came over, they would hang up their bacon to show off. It was a sign of wealth that a man could, bring home the bacon. They would cut off a little to share with guests and would all sit around and chew the fat..
Those with money had plates made of pewter. Food with high acid content caused some of the lead to leach onto the food, causing lead poisoning death. This happened most often with tomatoes, so for the next 400 years or so, tomatoes were considered poisonous.

Bread was divided according to status. Workers got the burnt bottom of the loaf, the family got the middle, and guests got the top, or the upper crust.

Lead cups were used to drink ale or whisky. The combination would sometimes knock the imbibers out for a couple of days. Someone walking along the road would take them for dead and prepare them for burial. They were laid out on the kitchen table for a couple of days and the family would gather around and eat and drink and wait and see if they would wake up. Hence the custom of holding a wake.
England is old and small and the local folks started running out of places to bury people. So they would dig up coffins and would take the bones to a bone-house, and reuse the grave. When reopening these coffins, 1 out of 25 coffins were found to have scratch marks on the inside and they realized they had been burying people alive. So they would tie a string on the wrist of the corpse, lead it through the coffin and up through the ground and tie it to a bell. Someone would have to sit out in the graveyard all night (the graveyard shift.) to listen for the bell; thus, thus someone could be, saved by the bell or was considered a ..dead ringer..

The greatest thief of human happiness and abundance is ungratefulness. Any lack in our lives - whether in money, health, or relationships - is simply the evidence of a lack of gratitude. If you focus on lack you are not being grateful, and that will bring more lack into your life.
Yet the simple state of radiating gratitude summons everything to you. No matter who you are or where you are, you can change your life with gratitude, but you must feel it with your whole heart and radiate it from every cell.
Gratitude is not a mental exercise, and in fact, if you simply use your mind for gratitude it will have little or no power. True gratitude comes from your heart! You must think gratitude through your heart, speak gratitude through your heart, and feel it intensely in your heart
Then practice gratitude relentlessly. As you practice gratitude you will attract more thoughts and feelings of gratitude. In a short time your entire being will be saturated with it, and you will experience a happiness that is beyond what you can imagine.
This is what is ahead for you when you choose gratitude as your way of life. And if you can really live in this highest state of gratitude, you will never have to ask for anything. Everything you want will be given to you before you even ask, because gratitude is the magnetic substance that opens every single door in the Universe.
