Life is Like That

I wonder ..... where is sleeping beauty?

lol

I had an idea of how to do my next shawl but then once it began to turn out I realized I had to continue with the same thread.
Since I am using left overs this was not to be if it was to turn out nice.
So I asked my son to take me to the store since I like company, and he of course said no.
His life is way too busy.
So I said fine, once you finish you can take me to the store and then get gas.
Since he needs gas, he finished up quickly and took me to the store. lol

I looked and looked but the thread disappears quickly or is not replaced as it was in the past.

I was not going to find the color I needed.
Always happens this way.

But I found a mixed color thread which would match wonderfully.
So I bought it and just now tried it out and am thrilled.
It compliments the light mauve perfectly and will make it nicer than I imagined it would turn out
if I continue doing it without mistakes.

I hope I'm right.

This one is a simpler fan stitch but the directions were not written well so I had a bit of trouble with the run on instructions.

It's a long rectangle and also very nice for evening wear.

I already can't wait to show the end product.

I love to learn new stitching and new crafts. So much I still want to do.

The weeks are just too short.

Hope you have enough to do to enjoy your day today.

My Kitty Hat

I put my knitting away and then this little creation appeared.
How it began is a mystery but I finished it and I feel a sense of accomplishment.
lol
The hat was done on very thin needles used for socks.
Another to add to my collection
I think I will soon have a store I can open with my own finished projects.
lol
It's nice to sit and do something without having to look at patterns or counts stitches.
Now I have to make something to go with it so it's a set.

At the bottom of the picture is a strand of folded chip bags to make a purse with.
It takes 7 x 60 link strands to make a small purse.
Now I know I can make them.
Quite exciting because it is not hard to do and the bags are gorgeous.
It pays to do projects.:)

The Kitty card is by an artist named Oresta

Have a good Day every one!!!

Valenki

Valenkis' were worn by peasants and we would read many stories about how these poor people would trudge through heavy snow in frigid weather and yet who would have thought these valenkis were so warm.
They are good up to -40C and excellent of circulation, rheumatism and arthritis
Felt is easy to make if you want to make slippers. Just throw an old wool sweater into the drier and voila.
My boys did that with two new sweaters after having been told how many times??????
NOT TO DO THAT?????? (sigh)

Valenkis' are not cheap today any more than designer dogs which used to be called worthless mutts.
Times have changed. People have become smarter and do not just look for style but for comfort and health.

Now I can't make boots for the outside but I have enough felt from sweaters to make boots for the inside which can be sewn or made from one piece.
The arms can be used as leggings for hockey skating and soccer games or sewn onto other sweaters to make them designer like the dogs mentioned above . Then you can wear a winter vest and still have warm arms.
See... I can either sulk or find other things to do and make my life easier.
It also is an idea one could experiment with, to do a niche market in indoor slippers.

Tiger Power

Now this is one little copper kitty I found, which I made, when I was
a kid.
I remember how much I enjoyed making things like this.
I don't know where my beaver and other pieces I made went.

Things had a habit of disappearing in my house.
But I am glad this little guy remained and that I was able to take a picture of him.

After I made him, I remember thinking that I wanted my kitchen cabinets,
to be made out of such tigers.
How much delight I would take in cleaning them and caressing such a wonderful powerful animal
in my kitchen.
Some people want a tiger in their tank and I wanted a tiger in my kitchen,
growling me into beautiful succulent meals.

I have a nice kitchen but no tigers. :)
Nothing to scare me into cooking succulent meals.
Nothing to caress and give me incentive to clean my cabinets.
lol

Ah well.

Life could be worse I guess lol

Oriental Flavor

-------------------------------
HAPPY BIRTHDAY HONEY BUNNY!!
We celebrated my husband's birthday last night, wishing him all the best for many many more years to come!!
My son is 18 years old now and he used to get all the cherries off the cake, so we offered him our cherries and he thanked us and ate them. lol
This is what makes family great. We all share the same memories.Even the tiny ones. lol And years don't matter. :)
---------------------------------

This is one of my favorite stores.
It seems to be liquidating everything so I am sure it will close down soon like the huge craft store next door did. That also was a great place to shop for crafters because it had everything from flowers to paints to little baubles and wooden structures trees, etc...
Many stores are trying to hold out but with the economy today and high rents, not many people are buying these days. The HST was a complete surprise. I don't know how it can help business owners when they can't sell their goods.
Sure puts a damper on holidays. Even with groceries which they said will not be taxed, we calculated the tax we paid and it came up to 6 dollars more than usual. So I do not understand how they figure food is not taxed. Maybe not in stores but before it gets there, prices go up, so therefore the product goes up.

We used to love making stuff so the house and tree was different every year.Lately we just enjoyed a tree with white lights and a motor which turned it in the window.
But I remember when I was a kid waking up to Santa's call and then seeing this beautiful tree in its splendor covered in jewels and all kind of elves and Santas and angels and horses hanging from it,as well as a manger and wise men telling the story of Christmas. All the excitement sure rosied up my cheeks. Kids don't have that today.
The Shirley Temple kind of stories, when things other than toys, were important.
If you ask me today, I remember the trees but not any of the things I got as presents.
Funny.

This year I wanted my tree to be plastered with red birds. So I went to this mall to see if they had the feathers I needed to make my birds. Now I have to buy a down pillow and color the feathers if I want the same project to continue,But then I will not know if the feathers will come out but then again I will have a lot more feathers lol
Life sure has its' pros and cons.

Our countries need to support local crafters and thus bring jobs and quality workmanship back. People used to have such pride in the work they did and today with antique collectors, they are still recognized and appraised highly. It is not a good sign to have places like this closing down.
Pretty soon, the high rents, will close down many shops and people will run their stores from home, flea markets and garage sales.

As a matter of fact, it wouldn't be such a bad idea now would it?
They showed BC on TV covered in a blizzard of snow and here we have nothing.
Just the same ice from yesterday. I think Vancouver Island gets hit harder.

Women Friends chatting in office.

Woman 1: I had a fine evening, how was yours?
Woman 2: it was a disaster. My husband came home, ate his dinner in three minutes and fell asleep in two minutes. How was yours?
Woman 1: Oh it was amazing! My husband came home and took me out to a romantic dinner. After dinner we walked for an hour. When we came home he lit the candles around the house and afterwards talked for an hour. It was like a fairytale!

At the same time, their husbands are talking at work.

Husband 1: How was your evening?
Husband 2: Great. I came home, dinner was on the table, I ate and fell asleep. It was great! What about you?
Husband 1: It was horrible. I came home, there's no dinner because they cut the electricity because I hadn't paid the bill; so I had to take my wife out to dinner which was so expensive that I didn't have money left for a cab. We had to walk home which took an hour; and when we got home remember there was no electricity so I had to light candles all over the house! After all, I was so aggravated that I couldn't fall asleep and my wife was jabbering away for another hour!

Have a great day everyone :)

Creative Universe

This shot was taken at Lansdown Mall, in Richmond, BC.
They have this wonderful flower shop there which always has exquisite flowers
I love orchids . We saw so many planters on the streets of Singapore.
They were growing almost in every home. I do not know much about them I must admit, except that when they bloom, they are one of a kind of flower.

So the day went by quite nicely as we perused all the beautiful things the stores had on display.
We ended the day at our favorite Japanese restaurant, before going home for coffee and a nap. This morning is extremely cold here in Vancouver.
The back yard is fstill frozen at noon.
We rarely have actual frozen days here and if so it's gone by noon.

Thanks for visiting :)

Two Newfies were sitting drinking coffee when a truck went by carrying a load of turf.
One said to the other : That's what I will do when I win the big lottery.

What? Asked the other.

Send me lawn out to get cut.

Christmas Canvass Coloring

This was a fun project to do and very easy for kids and parents to spend a quality evening together coloring.

I got a painters canvass for the floor from Home Depot.
I cut it into the length I wanted and drew pictures on it.

This canvass is easy to color with felts and /or you can use acrylic paint.

You can sew up the sides or do whatever finishing you may want and use it for carpet covers for Christmas or as a Table cloth or a couch cover. Actually it could go anywhere depending on what you draw on it.You can even turn it into a curtain.

If you varnish it, it will be easy to wipe off any spill from it or it can be put under a clear plastic table cover or glass.

What is good about it though, is the fun a family could have being creative and since it is reusable you can put the dates and names and anything else you may want to remember the year it was made.

I had fun making this one.
I could still put more stuff on it but I didn't know what else to do. lol

I didn't want to over crowd it and risk destroying what was turning out so nice.
