Native Indian Genious.

Native American Indians have long used natures' treasures for survival.
They say nature provides.
Take care of nature and it will take care of you.

The Natives used bark of trees to make clothing as well as baskets.
Some they wove and some they folded together using hot water to soften the bark so it could be folded.

They used bark of already fallen trees such as cedar and birch. They also knew how to cut the bark so it would not hurt the tree allowing it to scar and keep on growing.

These baskets I found to be beautiful and used for cooking and as water containers.

I remember my Dad using the hot water method to make a pair of skiis.
My Dad loved to try out things to see if they worked.
Usually what ever he did came out wonderful.

Using hot water to bend wood and then its natural internal chemicals to harden it makes wood a life sustaining plant that keeps giving and giving to mankind.

We have more than one reason to love and protect our trees and plants for the life they provide for us.

For survival reasons, this is one thing the Survivor Series, never shows us how to do.
He finds evidence of man, in terms of left behind refuse , which he uses and he uses rocks to kill little creatures to survive, but there is so much more intelligence out there and the native Indians have been using them for centuries without hurting the planet.
We all should learn and never forget the old ways, for that's all we will have if technology fails us.

Happy Monday Everyone.:)

Hi A Lady's Life .. we had a programme here on Canada, done by our Bushcraft and Survival guide, on the opening up of Canada .. by Samuel Hearne, Rohn Rae and David Thompson .. fascinating where he used the locals' knowledge and tried to record as much as he could .. it was extremely interesting.

So I can understand and am glad you're remember your Dad and his love of natural uses ...

Very interesting .. cheers Hilary

I'm sure the natives knew more than we did in many areas.

Hilary - I love the survival programs and I love to learn about how the pioneers lived and survived without corner stores and shopping malls. :)

Diana - yes they did unfortunately another kind of man came and destroyed their rivers, polluted them, so when people ate fish they became ill with neurological diseases.
Hopefully the rivers have been cleaned up by now.
