Our school is a good school, |
He laughed when they said it couldn't be done,
Poor old teacher, we missed you so,
There was a young caretaker named Frank,
When things get twisted and out of joint,
The joke you just told isn't funny one bit,
Mary had a little bear,
Don't worry if your job is small,
There was a young teacher of Rheims,
I wish I was a little grub, ============================================ The day is sunny and we are waiting for the Hockey game to begin between the Vancouver Canucks and San Jose. It should be a treat as the Vancouver team is said to be very focused. It is going to be a long week end here in Canada and the college kids are heading up on to Whistler to partee. Mama and Papa will also partee at home alone for their anniversary. We are slowly becoming a single couple again.lol Saturday, according to one priest, is supposed to be judgement day. Its just a matter of days before we see what all this is about. Seems to me the end of the world has been predicted every generation and still the world is carrying on as if it doesn't know anything. It just continues on its' path doing what it always does, ebbs and flows, freezes and melts, rains and shines. The rest of life has to deal with the consequences of the planets behavior. Lately it has been naughty. Is it learning from life to live? To make it exciting for people? Well at least we are busy trying to clean up our lives so less time is spent on dirtying it. lol Trying to see the bright side of it. hmmm.

A Little Poetry To Clear the Mind.

The Blue Hanky
Inside a pale blue hanky
lay our vows of love
Picked on a hillside
Two Blue Heart mountain flowers
Your face was flushed and joyful
I knew you were the one
The one who would love me
Forever in the sun
I stole the pale blue hanky and made you search in vain
And you came home unhappy
And cried that it was gone.
Inside a pale blue hanky
Lay our vows of love
Picked on a hillside
Two Blue Heart mountain flowers
I stole the pale blue hanky
and brought it home that day
To add to it a diamond ring
Engraved with your own name
My love is like this diamond
Emitting radiant light
So you can find me in the darkness
Of the blackest night
The vows of love are given
For people to know joy
The Blue Heart Mountain flowers
Are two hearts on a hillside.

A man is a little thing when he works by and for himself; but when he gives voice to the rules of love and justice, he is godlike.

LIFE and MATURITY
The look of innocence
From old eyes
That speak of spring
A tender smile
So knowing and kind
From lips that have once kissed deep
Drunk of life’s nectar and
Collected it for a winter’s day
Oh yes, La Boheme
Such as it was
An early bud
Pricked, torn
but still in bloom
Blue white and gold
Enshrined for all to see
Innocent in old blind eyes.
The spring of love still lives.

Three Word Thursday # 17

They let me go.

Three Word Thursday # 16

The song was sung.
The deed was done.
and now??????? What shall become of me?
I hated being a NIDDERING cry baby.
Always being seen as needy, is never flattering but what was I to do?
My life consisted of being an AMANUENSIS to some one elses's fantasy.
How much more could I take?
I tired of being a TYRO, always learning and relearning the same things over and over, tested over and over, never passing go, never advancing to the next level.
There were no exciting DIVIGATIONS.
It was always the same. I wanted to cry but it wasn't in the program.
They kept taking blood and injecting me causing RUBEFACIENT itchiness and SENTICOUS numbness throughout my body.
It was PERSPICACIOUS of them, except they didn't know.
They had no idea.
I did advance.
I was not a QUONDAM from the past.
I.....was the future.

The Flower - Alfred Lord Tennyson
Once in a golden hour
I cast to earth a seed.
Up there came a flower,
The people said, a weed.
To and fro they went
Thro’ my garden-bower,
And muttering discontent
Cursed me and my flower.
Then it grew so tall
It wore a crown of light,
But thieves from o’er the wall
Stole the seed by night;
Sow’d it far and wide
By every town and tower,
Till all the people cried,
‘Splendid is the flower.’
Read my little fable:
He that runs may read.
Most can raise the flowers now
For all have got the seed.
And some are pretty enough,
And some are poor indeed;
And now again the people
Call it but a weed.

Chucky...my Chuck...

I got my shepherd, Chucky, from a woman who raised guard dogs, in Montreal.
She dealt mainly with Dobermans and Shepherds.
We didn’t know who she was when we entered this small house, which I am now not so
sure she really lived in, but maybe she did.
There were two black Dobermans sitting on the couch, staring at you like Bobsey twins but they didn’t move.
She welcomed us in and then she called her friend to bring in the puppy.
Well, this so called 8 week old puppy, was huge!
She plopped him into my arms and I had a hard time holding it. He was so heavy.
My husband and I immediately fell in love.
He had a great looking black nose, huge fat paws, his exoskeleton felt like he would
grow up to be humungous and I was assured he would also have some brown on him.
His eyes looked up at you in this helpless, baby fashion, like the, I want my Mommy, look.
He was such a cute, big bear, ……baby.

I tried putting him on the floor to have a better look but the woman said no. If he does it once on the floor,he will always do it.She said with so many dogs, she could not afford this to happen.
She asked if I would like to meet his grand father. I said sure.
Once taking the pup away, she called ol granpa and he came in all wagawagging, full of kisses.
He rubbed himself around your legs like a cat.
He was huge, with a very big head. He’d roll over and was just such a pleasant fellow
I figured, gosh... this is just what I wanted.
She asked me…...do you like him?
I said yes! Very much so.
Then she said, I will show you something.
She took us into the basement and she said whatever happens …..don’t move.
She brought her friend in and he had this pad over his arm.
She bade the dog to “watch” and ol grandpa turned into this wicked, ugly looking, fierce monstrosity, I had ever seen.
She told him to attack and he attacked the arm of the man.
The man pushed an old thick telephone book, 3 - 4 inches thick,at him. With one bite, he bit right through….The book was now... in half.
I winced.
No leg or arm, would withstand a bite such as this.

Even if we wanted to, my husband and I could not move.
Once the show was over, she told him “at ease” and he immediately turned back into loveable ol granpa.
Not a mean streak in him.
She explained that this dog had no mean streak in him.
He was just following orders and all her dogs are the same.
She trains them and rents them to businesses.
She said one D’Epanneur rented her dog and the dog was
fine until one fellow came in and the dog immediately knew something was not right
about him. He gave a small growl, enough for the owner to stop and pay attention to something going wrong.
The dog, prepared the man for something bad to happen.
The customer was a thief and the man was able to get the police to come before he left the store or even know the police was called.
The police arrested him and found he was armed.

Training and control, was what her dogs were all about.
Then she asked me again, do you still like this dog?
My husband and I were so impressed we said yes, we want a dog exactly like grand pa and she laughed. Loll
So we took Chucky home . At home, he huffed and puffed, trying to get into a flower pot.
We took him outside but he did not do anything. We brought him inside and he ran around whining and crying.
We had another dog at home and I told my husband to take her out so she pees.
He did that and then we took Chucky outside to smell. He put two and two together, that it was ok to pee on the grass.
So he peed and peed and peed and that fat, huge puppy, shrunk in size, to the normal size a puppy his age should be.
We laughed thinking boy, did his nostrils flare. He must have been suffering.
But he never peed in the house, made no damage anywhere and he was exactly like grandpa.
Kids played on him. If my baby boy pulled his fur too much, he’d take his little hand gently into his mouth and pull it off as if to say..... no.
The mail man, at first, was not happy when we would tie the dog to the front door but he understood, Chucky was there for him. Every day he and Chucky had a relationship going on and he really loved the mail man and vs.
Once when we were clipping our hedges, Chucky growled and we looked up and saw some
guys we didn’t know, going into a neighbors' back yard.

She wasn’t home, so we called the police and they came and arrested them.
They were trying to break in and they were not even a day out of prison.
So the woman’s story about her dogs came true, in Chucky as well.
My husband soon learned he had a good jogging companion. They had the same coloring, black and tan (my husband wore a black beard then) lol. When they ran, they looked like twins. Being a long distance runner,my husband had to carry the dog back on his back, the first time they went out but after a few runs, Chucky was right there, knowing the score.
Chucky knew how to climb ladders and my husband, who travelled a lot, knew not to mess with me when he got home.lol
As soon as he’d come to hug me from behind,
Chucky would get up, slowly circle round him, stand up on his two hind legs and dig his nails into his back to say...... No.
My husband had to watch his back..........but I loved my dog.

Weeping Willow Helps You...... to Stop.

One of my favorite trees is the Weeping Willow tree.
I had one in my back yard and lamented the day my Dad decided to cut it down
because of it’s aggressive root system’
It was a hard tree to kill and the more they tried, the more it hurt me.
I spent so much time up in that tree so it was more than just a tree to me.
It was my friend.
Sometimes I felt like Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland hiding up in its’ branches.
This tree was used by many, from old days in Mesopotamia.
Aspirin came from it
They made tea from the bark, for rheumatism, indigestion,
gum and tonsil inflammation, whooping cough.
The tannin was used to tan animal hides and the roots protected from water erosion.
So although many call this tree a weed, in actuality it is not a tree we should be destroying. This tree weeps for you.:)
William Yeats wrote a poem

Down by the Salley Gardens: (Salley is another name for WILLOW)
Its about unrequited love.
She offered herself to him and he refused and then he regretted it and
it happened under the weeping willow tree.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3p085i07rWs&feature=related
Down by the Salley Gardens.
It was down by the Salley Gardens, my love and I did meet.
She crossed the Salley Gardens with little snow-white feet.
She bid me take love easy, as the leaves grow on the tree,
But I was young and foolish, and with her did not agree.
In a field down by the river, my love and I did stand
And on my leaning shoulder, she laid her snow-white hand.
She bid me take life easy , as the grass grows on the weirs
But I was young and foolish, and now am full of tears.
Down by the Salley Gardens, my love and I did meet.
She crossed the Sally Gardens with little snow-white feet.
She bid me take love easy, as the leaves grow on the tree,
But I was young and foolish, and with her did not agree.

Jokes:
Civic Lesson
In a high school civics class, they were discussing the qualifications for becoming President of the United States.
The requirements are pretty simple. The candidate must be a natural born citizen and at least 35 years old.
A blonde girl in the class piped up and began complaining about how unfair it was to require the candidate to be a natural born citizen. In her opinion, that made it impossible for many qualified people to run for the office. She went on and on, wrapping up her argument with
"What makes a natural born citizen more qualified to be President than one born by C-Section?"
CATS
A Tom Cat was running up and down the alley meowing.
An unhappy neighbor asked what was wrong with the cat?
The owner said he was neutered today and he’s cancelling all his engagements.
Parachute Jumping
On the first day of training for parachute jumping, a blonde listened intently to the instructor. He told them to start preparing for landing when they are at 300 feet.
The blonde asked, "How am I supposed to know when I'm at 300 feet?"
"That's a good question. When you get to 300 feet, you can recognize the faces of people on the ground."
After pondering his answer, she asked, "What happens if there's no one there I know?"

The True Hunter
Dancing warriors flirt
With death on the horizon
Their hefty steeds stand breathing
Through swollen flaring nostrils
Their wild eyes see the swords flash
By raging crackling fires
Sending sparks into the wind
Whistling to inspire
Across the field another group
Sits hungry eyed and lean
All dressed in black they hide in
Mountain caverns, cold and clean.
There is no fire, no mirth, or sadness
Just determination, to win the battle
Close at hand, against trespassers of nations.
The patient wolf stalks the grassy turf.
Pangs of hunger fill his jowls
The nervous steeds stamp their feet and whinny at his scent
The warriors search the midnight air
In hopes to find what ails them.
They do not see the lonely hunter
Hidden in the wail land
The Black eyed groups in caverns,
Well hidden and discreet,
Impatient for the break of day say
There would be no retreat.
The smell of blood was in the air but
one could not determine
Who be the hunter and who the prey.
Who the strong or weak.
At dawn the soaring Eagle’s cry,
Awoke the warring parties
Both sides rode to meet the fate
Destiny had written.
They fought a gallant battle
They died a gallant death
Just causes were united in
Dirty mud and sweat
The lone wolf was the winner.
Had trophies all around
He howled into the cold wind, inviting friends to come
For here they would have plenty, to feast on and to share
Thanks to these just causes which brought this prey so near.
True hunters hide in grasses.
They prey on strong and weak
The true hunter is the watcher.
Who has no fighting streak.

Beautiful Flowers for everyone....
M. armeniacum
Fantasy Creation
M. plumosum M. armeniacum All species' bulbs should be planted at least 3" (8 cm) deep, in a location where the water can't settle in winter plant bulbs in zones 3 - 9, except for M. latifolium which prefers zones 2 to 5
All species will naturalize extremely easily (i.e. come back year after year and gradually multiply); that is, unless you plant them in completely sunless or swamplike conditions!
Muscari are all-round flowers: they are excellent as cut flowers, when planted in rockgardens, beds, borders, under shrubs, and trees, and can be used for indoor forcing. .

HAPPY GOOD FRIDAY

GOOD FRIDAY.
A pretty sombre day commemorating the crusifiction of Jesus, to those of us who celebrate Easter.
It has a special meaning for me regardless of whether or not Jesus was the son of God.
It is irrelevant to me. I choose to believe in him for what he believed and for who he was and for what he represents to this day.
1) He believed he was the son of God.
2) He died believing he was dying for the world's salvation. He wanted his Father, God, to respect his love for people "who do not understand what they do". He asked him for his mercy.and he asked him for hope for a people of his creation.
He lived with people so he understood them better than the Father.
He self sacrificed as a lamb and not as a lion, to earthly powers, without objections, as if he knew this had to be.
This certainly makes Christians different from Muhammads followers.
3) His forgiving of the other two criminals hanging beside him, was also significant, in that if they didn't believe, if he didn't get them to believe in him, then why would they ask forgiveness of another crucified man? What hypnotic spell or trickery, could a mortal, man do on them?
4) and why would there be a storm immediately after his passing?
As a child, I remember the day my Mother pulled me into this little delapidated church, in Montreal, which has since been torn down because they were building a Metro system.
The last thing I wanted to do was stand in church but when we opened the door.....
something undescribable happened. I couldn't explain it as anything else but HOLY.
There was nothing special about that church It was old, smelly and rotting but I wish to this day, they did not tear it down. I don't even remember where it stood exactly but I am sure that whatever is in that spot, is still Holy.
Whenever I had a bad dream, I would wake up with a pounding heart and cross myself, and it immediately took away the horror and replaced it with Peace because I knew then, I had nothing I to fear. I was being looked after.
A very small thing but it kept me safe.
Whenever I drive, I keep a guardian angel icon with me for the road and being on the road so much, I had so many bad things that could have happened to me but for some reason didn't because something always foretold me of danger ahead.
So uncanny and beyond belief and I really need to knock on wood not to jynx myself for telling this story. lol
Once on a highway, we were driving relatively fast. It was around 11pm and we were doing a cross country run. For no reason something told me .....slow down here.
There was no reason to slow down. It was a perfect road, empty, wide. The moon was out so it wasn't very dark.
Anyway, just then this huge Moose ran across the road. His body was higher than the front of my Ford 150 truck. He was looking at me with this yellow eye . I could see his muscles ripple as he ran past, that was how close he was to the truck. Where he came from, I don't know.
I had just enough braking power to slow down, to allow him to pass without hitting him.
I had two kids sleeping in the truck. Had I hit him, we probably would have been a statistic today.
After that night I said to myself ..no more.
No point to risk your life to save a few minutes time.
I never saved time anyway because there was always something forcing me to make a detour away from the main highway.
So time I made in one place, I lost in another.
I found if I stopped at 5pm, had a good nights sleep and then continued the next day at 8 am, I had better timing and less fatigue, than doing it my way. lol
Incidences like this, made me understand that if it is your time, you will not have these impulses to do things you would not otherwise do and then finding that having not done them, would have cost you your life.
I guess every one must get them every now and then but I pay attention when I do.
Another thing I find weird about myself.
I could be anywhere, doing anything and for no apparent reason, by accident, I happen to look into a persons eyes and the person into mine and a thought pops into my head, that this person is going to die.
Its a momentary thing and life goes on. I don't know this person but later on somehow, I find out the person died.
Why was I told this? What was I supposed to do with this info?
Was I meant to stop it? Was I meant to look ridiculously insane by going up to a total stranger and telling him to be careful?
As you walk through life, things happen, which leave you at a loss as to what you have to or need to do.
I know now that if it ever happens to me again, I will tell this person to be careful.
Maybe it will help change destiny. Only God knows how many times mine has been. :)
So with all this in mind I celebrate Good Friday but I look forward more for the ressurection of a man who believed in good ness and love, enough to go through all this for people, so they understand.
I am not a particularly religious person because I have no faith in the people who profess they are working for God. I believe religion should not involve money. It's personal and holy and if you go to pray into God's house, well this world is all God's house.
This planet is a miracle. Life is a miracle. Love is a miracle. Knowledge is a miracle.
Survival is a miracle.
We live miracles every day and we don't even know it.
Have a Blessed day and thanks for listening to my ramblings. lol

Two more days before the week end.
A Few good Proverbs to remember:
A book is a garden carried in your pocket
A little and a little becomes a great deal.
All mankind is divided into three classes, immoveable,
moveable and those who move.
Compete, don't envy.
Fear not the man who fears God.
Salt will never be worm eaten

He became a General and she gave him land and serfs.
Hannibal married a Greek woman Evdokia Dioper.
It was a forced marriage and she began to cheat on him so he put her in jail for
11 years and later divorced her.
He then got himself a Scandinavian girl Christina Regina Sioberg 1705 – 1781
He had 10 children with her.
One of these children was Osip.
Osip had a daughter Nadezhda who married Serge Pushkin and became the Mother of Alexander Pushkin.
Pushkin was not a likeable child and his Mom sent him to his Grand Mothers a lot but he was really raised by his Nanny, Arina Rodionovna .
She loved him, read to him, pampered him.
It is for her he wrote a lovely poem.
According to the family tree , it seems there was some family intermarriage.
Abram Hannibal had a son Osip, who married a Maria Pushkin
They had a daughter Nadezsda.
Nadezsda married Sergei Pushkin, son of Lev Pushkin and Olga Pushkin
Nadezshda and Sergei had Alexander Pushkin.
Pushkin was said to have had a hot temper , gambled and loved women.
They blamed it on his black side .
Pushkin died in a duel trying to protect his wife’s honor.
Pushkins blood can be found in British Natalia Grosvenor, Duchess of Westminster
And George Mountbatten, 4th Marquess of Milford Haven.

don't cry for me argentina
GOOD MORNING!!!
Happy Tuesday to Everyone and Thanks for visiting a Lady's Life.
Listening to the news sure puts a damper on life.
The economy is especially frightening to most people.
One good thing though.
People are beginning to fight back .
Some want to keep chickens in their back yards because
they say government should not tell people what kind of food they should eat.
I agree.
Ducks are easier to keep because they waddle around eating any bugs you may have in the lawn and their soft quacking is very soothing.
You don't have to use artificial fertilizers on your lawn because they fertilize it for you.
When I was little, my Dad always had rabbits or chicks or ducks for me in summer and in winter they'd be supper.
Of course I'd never know. They would just disappear and I'd eat lunch and then go look for them, asking all the neighbors if they saw my animals running around. Of course every one said no.
Had I known I was eating my pets, I don't think I could have.
How do you eat Missy?
Ok. Bitey I could eat lol
Many people kept such pets and every ones back yards was one big garden.
One day on my way to school, I saw this white chicken running down the street being chased by a cat.
He ran right into my arms so I took it home.
He was a great little guy and slept in my lap. Finally my Dad said we can't keep him. Let's give him to your Gramma.
Gramma tied his leg to a rope and kept him under her balcony.
He grew up to be this huge gray rooster. A real handsome sort.
He loved my Gramma but when I came to see my little chicken, he chased me up the stairs so quickly I just barely had enough time to shut the door.
My Dad laughed and went out . The rooster ran up to him . He put one wing down and danced around him in a ritual like performance. My Dad kept turning and the rooster walked around him as well with his wing down caw caw cawing. My Dad knew he wouldn't bite him.
I have to give it to my Dad. He sure knew his animals.
My Mom never liked animals but he was a tinkerer and into everything.
The Rooster had become a guard dog and wouldn't let any one into the yard.
My Gramma was real proud of him
I guess my Gramma told my Dad it was time.
He wasn't as lucky as the Pig who saved the Farmer and his wife and just lost a leg cause you can't eat a good pig like that in one shot. lol
Here in BC, we kept Buster the rabbit. He had long floppy ears and was so cute looking.
Whenever he'd get upset over something he'd thump on his aquarium so we'd know something was not right.
He was like a guard as well sitting in his prefab home.
He gave us such good fertizer, my roses bloomed none stop, bud after bud till the end January and into February. I was impressed.
We exchanged him for a dozen eggs lol
I couldn't imagine eating Buster.
Have a happy day everyone. :)
Morning rooster crows. My rooster didn't know how to crow He skipped a beat

Good Morning Monday (Marlena Dietrich)

Good Morning and a Happy Monday to every one!
I was reading some comments about the old songs I put on, and it suddenly occured to me that the young people don't understand why these songs are so meaningful and why they speak so clearly to many of us over 23 folks lol
My Grand mother had these songs and I grew up with them on old LP's. but it is only later when I grew up and began trying to find out why all these old people had idiosyncracies (lol) that I started to pay attention.
I wanted to understand why they were the way they were.
Tough, strong, rarely cried, disciplined, rarely complained about pain. They would smile when you'd complain about the hard day you had and come up with something like ya... hard to push buttons.lol
They were able to close their eyes to pain and suffering.
Love meant something different to them.
They never talked about it but they felt it deeply.
In fact my grand mother taught me a few words of wisdom.
When they keep telling you they love you, it means they don't.
Actions speak louder than words.
They understood what friendship meant.
They were frugal and charitable and did a lot without you having to ask for it,
always one step ahead.
They could taste the soil and know if it was good.
They could find water with a stick and tell you where to dig.
They had golden hands and could turn straw into gold.
Every morning they woke up, was a glorious morning!
They knew how to laugh at misfortune.
They believed in saving for a rainy day, in food, clothing, medicines and they always tinkered with things, recycled.
Our people today have no respect for material things and sit feeling sorry for themselves all the time.
You listen to kids and parents talk about bullying and you wonder, how did strong people of yesterday survive? He's bullying you? Punch him in the nose. Johnny Cash sang the song about the boy named Sue.
It's a survival song.
No old person I knew wanted to die and here, we have everything, and everyone's spirits are down.
"Suicide " is heard thrown around in schools and in households and in businesses.
Seems people are not living their lives right.
They forget there are no short cuts in life. It is, what it is.
People need to be needed and appreciated and loved.
They need dirt in their lives. They need chickens and horses and a garden and flowers.
They need chores.
Only families can provide that because they divide chores and everyone feels like they are doing something good by pitching in.
This is why I feel sorry young people today, throw their old away into nursing homes, when they could have such great family evenings, finding out about the incredible lives they led and all this is going to die with them.
They have incredible stories. All you need is a campfire and a peace pipe and it could be like in the old Indian days ,except much better, with new technology.lol
My Grandfather walked amongst the bombs as they fell all around him, while every one else hid in bomb shelters.
He said: " If its my time, it's my time."
It wasn't. He was safe and God protected him.
Another fellow was the first one in the bomb shelters fearing to die. As soon as the sirens blew., he was right there, hiding under a bed, at the very bottom.
One time, before people had a chance to get there, a bomb blew through the shelter he was in and went down to the very bottom and landed right in front of his eyes and didn't explode.
They found him under the bed, staring at this bomb, insane.
That was a message sent to him, that if death wants you, it knows where to find you.
Another story was about the Germans who had the best bomb shelters and sent the other people to shabbier ones. Well seems the bombs found their bomb shelters and they provided them no safety, while the shabbier ones were not touched.
So they began to run to hide in those instead. How did the bombs know where to find the right shelters to bomb? It had to be some divine intervention. You see God speaking during these times and you don't question his existence.
Marlena Dietrich led the most fascinating life and these people should not die without every one knowing their stories because we become better people as a result.Ernest Hemingway thought that "if she had nothing more than her voice, she could break your heart with it."
Voltaire was a great man. He knew Pushkin.
My latest research has been about Pushkin. I loved his stories as well but it is when I went into his great grandfathers story...... that I found a most fascinating one. It led me deeper into Islam and slavery.
something that effects us even today.
People don't forget history. It affects and follows you in everything you do.
Schools teach but they don't teach what people need to know.
Once you put all the missing pieces together, things make a lot of sense.
How many people do we elect to lead us who don't know history enough to understand the consequences of their actions?
How many elections do we give ballots to, without knowing the people we are voting for, except what the lobby groups tell us?
You see, old people can fill in the missing blanks because they lived through it all.
They may not have education but they do have life experiences which amount to the same thing.
Where have all the flowers gone?

It's Too Late to Make New Enemies (Voltaire)
La Mer - Charles Trenet

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fd_nopTFuZA

Voltaire once said :
All sects are different, because they come from men;
Morality is everywhere the same, because it comes from God.
If God didn’t exist, we’d need to invent him.
If Voltaire woke up today, I believe he’d fit right into our contemporary society.
Voltaire is a name we know him by but his birth name was Francois Marie Arouet.
His life, was anything but boring.
He was an enlightened satirist, always learning, promoting skepticism, criticizing everything:
Aristocracy, religion, bigotry, tyranny, democracy, the Bible, the
Roman Catholic church, Islam. etc..
He tried to make people think rather than accept things thrown at them and the
establishment didn’t like it and burnt his books but the more they burnt,
the more people wanted to read him and many did and still do today.
He died at a ripe old age of 84, in May 1778 , leaving behind over
2000 books and 14,ooo letters.
His humanist stance, offended many and landed him in jail and exile many
times but they were all used as learning experiences.
His 15 year liason with Mme Chatelet, a scientist and mathematician,
gave him an opportunity to experiment with Isaac Newton’s ideas,
study Confucious, and get into areas of philosophy and metaphysics and
the idea of separation of Church and State etc…
His 3 year exile to England taught him about Constitutional Monarchy,
Civil and Social Freedoms and Free Trade.
France had an Absolute Monarchy then and Voltaire believed in enlightened
despotism because he said you needed educated leaders to make change.
Voltaire was very special and two things he did were truly exceptional.
One was his objection to the torture and death of Calas, a man accused of killing
his own son because they said he didn’t want him to become Roman Catholic.
Calas lost all his assets and his children were sent to a monastery. Voltaire went out
of his way to exonerate the family because he saw it as religious persecution.
The Second thing we can admire him for is his stance for womens rights in his poem :
Maid of New Orleans ( really the story of Joan of Arc. But he never finished it.
Tchaikovsky also wrote a play on her).
After all Joan did for France, France betrayed her.
Joan fell in love with an English Knight who changed sides and fought for France just to be with her.
Her Dad Thibault, thought she was possessed because of all the prophetic dreams she had which
got her kings trust and thus to her leading him to his coronation.
( since she made this possible for him)
Thibault asked her if she was pure and holy and because of her liason with her love Lionel,
she could not say yes.
They mistook this as an admission to being possessed and banished her.
The English caught her. They killed Lionel and burnt her at the stake as a witch.
She became a Martyr and a Saint . Voltaire saw this as tyranny, bigotry and persecution of women.
On his death bed they asked Voltaire to renounce the devil and return to God to which he replied:
“ It’s too late to make new enemies.”
I have never made but one prayer to God, a very short one: "Oh Lord, make my enemies ridiculous.' And God granted it.

Enlightend Roaches.

Dominick Dunne:
"Most of us spend too much time on the last twenty four hours
and too little on the last six thousand years."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I had never seen a cockroach as a child. In fact, I don’t know why they are called cockroaches
since they come from the latin word
“blatta” , meaning as we know it today, cockroach.
There’s about 4000 different kinds and they don’t usually grow over 3 inches.
The first time I laid eyes on one was in Florida, on a palm tree.
This HUMUNGOUS golden brown beauty, just sat there, glorifying its gorgeousness for the world to see and it was over three inches long.
(I SWEAR)
I HAD to ask a local what this beautiful bug was. So I did.
The look I got for this question was like: “Are you insane?” and then he answered:
“It’s a cockroach.” My face must have shown how shocked I was at learning this.
To this day, I have never again seen one like it ....ANYWHERE.
I kept thinking to myself how could people have such things in their homes?
Our first newly wed apartment, was in a brand new building.
It wasn’t long before I saw bugs coming out of my bathroom sink.
I caught one in a jar and plugged up all the sinks and bathtubs and took it to the janitor,
who became increasingly alarmed because
he found them in his apartment as well.
Both our apartments were 2 floors and in between us was a small one bedroom flat.
And so began the story…….
The Janitor opened the door to that flat and was appalled to find it literally covered
from top to bottom with roaches.
He almost cried.
They were everywhere!
It was a major ordeal getting them out of the building
but ………this was how I was introduced to Buddhism. lol
The couple who rented this flat were Oriental and Buddhists, who don’t kill bugs.
We often wonder, even today, how they slept?
It was Ironic in that “The Buddha” is otherwise known as
“The Awakened One”.lol
There are around 500,000 Buddhists today who believe every living thing has it’s place and reason for being and it must be respected as all nature, so it doesn’t revolt.
Buddhism exists now for over 2,500 years.
Buddhists believe, anyone following the Buddha, can have spiritual enlightenment or awakening and become like him.
If any one ever rubbed a Buddhas belly, he would know that there is some truth to that belief. lol
The Eightfold Path teaches how to stop suffering life and learning to live it.
The Four Noble Truths teach the path that must be taken to reach Enlightenment.
I truly only began to understand all this, once I accidentally found an Enormous Buddha, sitting in a mountain, in Malaysia, in the middle of no where..... in ABSOLUTE PEACE AND QUIET.
It blew my mind.
And all this ……….because of Cockroaches…….. truly Enlightened Creatures, having lived for over 350 million years on this planet.
