Little Brat

At this point in time my parents lived with my grand parents.
Here I am sitting on a chair in their living room,
torturing the cat. lol
The cat didn't mind.
My Grand parents house was not finished when we moved in
Every one worked except for my Mom.
My Dad and Grand Dad had two jobs.

We also had a canary which a rat ate in our bedroom one night.
My Mother was always afraid the rat would find me sleeping and
eat my nose off so she was always on strict watch patrol.

It is around this point in time when I got into my Aunts' perfume
and poured a whole expensive bottle on my head.
She cried every time she smelled me, because she worked a whole month
to buy this particular perfume.

At this point in time they also bought a black and white television set.
I was petrified of Humphrey Bogart who looked so sinister in his hat,
 smoking a cigarette.
I had night mares at night, he was coming to get me, in a foggy lumber yard.
This was also when I was helping my Dad build our small
bungalow and fell with my glass, milk bottle, cutting a big
hole in my arm.
I still have the scar but in those days we never went to the doctor for stitches
like they do today. We were tough in dem days. lol
We were a team.
This was the time I would sit in my high chair and my Grand Dad at the other end of the table.
He would point to his head and then to the table showing me I was dense/ stupid  and he'd smile and then wink at me and show me his tongue.
I would wait for him every day impatiently to sit down so I could show him back the same thing almost breaking my finger in the process poking the table and showing him my tongue back.
He found this funny but my Grand Mother would get upset and yell at him every day ,
saying that I only do this to him and he didn't teach me something nice. lol
Putting elbows on the table was another bad thing.
I was always scolded but then I would look and every one had their elbows on the table.
I would then explain to them it was impolite to put elbows on the table and again be scolded.
Life was hard in dem days lol
Didn't make any sense at all.
Why was it ok for everyone except me?

These two latest posts remind me of my childhood. The details are different, but I think the atmosphere in the home was much the same. I, for one, think we were very fortunate even if we didn't always have the latest gadgets or nicest clothes.

George - My Mom tried to put proper values into me. Kids never sat with adults. We had our own room to play in and our own table to eat at.They tried to raise me to be a proper lady.
We had a saying when it came to clothes..cheap but sharp. Always pressed well, clean, and hair and nails to match.Appearance was everything. This applied to the house as well.
When parents said no it meant no.
Today I feel bad for parents because we can't say no but have to take responsibility when bad things happen.Marriages and families suffer as a result.People just give up.How do you fight when no one cooperates and things like drugs etc.. are winning.Society has become so lax and as a result good people get hurt.

Adam - I remember playing with a cat but I dont know if I remember this one. My grama had cats back then.
I think this one had gray and white fur. It's good when animals, like people , can lead normal lives.

What a sweet picture of you and the poor cat, lol ! I think you are the only woman in the world who got nightmares because of Humphrey Bogart hahaha !
My bed seems to be solid this time, lol !

Well I was little then Gattina and I believed what we saw on tv was really going on. This is why kids should not mix with the adult world. They should have their own world to grow up in. When I listened to the radio I kept thinking boy, I'd hate to live a life like that having to sing the same song 24 hours a day at the radio station. lol
