Curiousity Killed the Cat

This is a fir tree in Victoria , BC.
They grow even bigger than this.
Having read the Oak Legend I had to find out which tree was used to crucify people.

I was happy to learn oak grew in areas like Bashan, and in the Ḥurshat Tal of the Ḥuleh valley but was expensive and too hard to cut so they needed a softer wood and this then most likely was the fir tree.

Lebanon had lots of cedar trees which symbolized pride and loftiness
The city of Tyre made oars out of oak

The oak when it is old is cut down and then regrows by letting out shoots.
Issiah used this oak tree to compare the fate of the Jewish people to the old oak.

The old oak (together with an elah, *terebinth) standing near the gate Shallekhet in Jerusalem that frequently had its branches and trunk cut down, only its stump remaining; yet no sooner was it felled, than the stump put forth "holy seed," sprouting new shoots (Isa. 6:13). Possibly Isaiah 11:1: "And there shall come forth a shoot out of the stock of Jesse, and a twig shall grow forth out of his roots" is a continuation of this chapter.

The oldest oak tree in Israel today is in Hebron and known as the oak of Hebron.
Either this tree or one of its ancestors is mentioned as the tree under which Abraham received the kings.(Ant., 1:186; cf. Wars, 4:533)

I never knew that about the tree in Hebron, but I have seen the olive trees in the Garden of Gethsemane and those were pretty cool. They are said to have been present with Jesus, but who knows? They really did look old and awesome!
