A Date Anyone?

This is what looks like a small spider and he has a little worm he is feasting on.
For some reason the camera could not make an enlargement of him.
The worm  was squirming every time he touched it. We watched him go back and forth
trying to figure out how to deal with it.
I don't think this date is going well for the worm lol

Quinoa is the new craze today with the kids in sports, along with Acai juice.
Here is a recipe.

Quinoa/Date health bars
Prep time:  1 hour 10 mins
Total time:  1 hour 10 mins
Serves: 8
Ingredients
  • ¼ cup cooked quinoa
  • 6 dates
  • 2 tablespoons tahini
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil
  • ¼ cup almonds
Instructions
  1. Puree the dates, almonds and quinoa in a food processor, pressing several times until you get a smooth paste.
  2. Transfer to a bowl, and add coconut oil, and tahini. Mix well with a spoon or clean hands until everything is completely incorporated.
  3. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  4. Wet your hands, take 2 tablespoons of the mixture, and form a bar. Place on a dish, and repeat with the rest.
  5. Refrigerate for at least 2 more hours, and eat as desired. You can also put them in the freezer 2 hours before eating, for a firmer bar.
  6. If you would like a more chocolatey taste, add as much cacao powder to the mixture, as you like.

I wondered what kind of date it was going to be - as Judy Garland sang:

"I’ll be glad to have a date that doesn’t grow on a tree
A date that’s not history..."

I haven't eaten dates for such a long time.

Was it a worm or some poor insect wrapped all up and ready to carry out?

Anji It looked like a little green worm or larvae of sorts. It wasn't wrapped up . The spider kept going to it and sucking on it and then letting go. It's not like it can run away. lol
Dates are good for you .I think if people kept them in knap sacs getting lost, wouldn't be so bad cause they'd keep you going for a while.

Decades ago on a trip south past Palm Springs we stopped at a little roadside stand and bought a date shake. It was so, so delicious. You've reminded me of a very tasty fruit and I might buy some at the market if I see them.

I am glad that the picture is not bigger ! I find spiders disgusting and run away when I see one. My cat Pookie takes care of them, when I see one, I put her in the same room with the spider, listen to some rumbling around and after a while the room is clean and Pookie leaks her whiskers ! Problem solved !

Gattina -Cats are great for catching rats, spiders, rabbits, birds and moles
When I had them, everything both bad and nice disappeared.
Now I have no cats and my yard is full of birds and bunnies. I find spiders fascinating. This spider was tiny, ant size. I am sure you wouldn't be afraid of it.
