There it is, finally done,Shawl number 2. Its supposed to be a Fan shawl but I call it a raindrop fan shawl because it seems to me the rain drops are more vivid in it. They are what appealed to me. It also ended up being a tri colored shawl instead of a totally mauve one. The pink part also had mauve running through it so it complemented the original mauve,
Here the rain drops can be seen clearer. xoxoxoxoxox
I couldn't get anyone to model for me and my mannequin is out of reach so I am displaying it over a cookie can . lol
This Lacy Shawl I began many times because every time I started it, following the pattern and directions always made it too small. So I had to adjust the pattern to suit my needs and so it became my pattern in a sense lol I used Patons Lace thread which consists of 10% mohair, 10% wool and 80% acrylique.
It is very nice for evening wear as it keeps the back shoulders and front warm from drafts you may get in air conditioned restaurants and such.
It can be worn with a belt for extra eloquence. I was debating on whether or not I should put some pearls into it but it looks pretty nice as is.
This project was shear joy to make even if it took more thread than a regular shawl would.
The first time I put it on I thought she would try to take it off but
to my surprise she enjoys wearing it.
It took hardly no time at all to make.
Well worth it for a Christmas stocking .
:) ------------------
A 60 year old woman went to apply for a job as a juicer at a fruit store.
The manager thought she seemed too old for the job .
“Do you even have any actual experience picking lemons ?” he asked.
“Well, I think I do.” she replied. “I’ve been divorced 5 times!”
--------------------
Working for the state police, you hear lots of funny speeding excuses. One day, while shooting my radar gun I caught an 85 year old lady doing 78 in a 55 mph zone. After I pulled her over I stepped up to her window and asked her, “Any reason you were speeding today?” She turns to me and replies, “Sure officer, I didn’t want to forget where I was going!”
---------------------- When I bought my new car, I called my insurance broker to fill out a new application. He asked me if I have any traffic accidents on my record? I replied,” no, except someone once hit me!” So he snaps, “well that’s a accident!” I snap back, “no, the guy did it on purpose!!!”
The top yellow blend is the last shoulder warmer I am making
It turned out quite nice with two double strand threads.
Depending on the occasion, I have colors to match lol
I might work now to see how to decorate them so they look less plain.
The top one is for fall The gray one is for winter
The multicolored one I put on before, is for spring and the pink one also from before, is for summer.
I put a lot of the things I made away in boxes and now I have enough for another box.
It just collects so fast. lol
I feel like I am making myself a dowry for retirement or for when my eyes cannot see anymore.
With climate change I think knitting will come back in style as people will require warmer things and it is nice to keep warm with the projects you make in winter.
I still have two sweaters to finish. I guess the reason I stopped is because I got disappointed in the sizing. They tell you one thing and then the things come out looking smaller but then they might stretch as wool usually does. I like the sweaters to look bulky on people because the warmth from the body is kept inside between the sweater and the clothes. I watched a program on Navajo Indian women. They have their own sheep and spin their own thread from the wool. Their blankets are very beautiful. People come from far and wide to buy them. I liked the lecture they gave on life and how important it is to live in harmony with nature. Their sheep would run away and they would wait for them to come back home on their own when the weather was bad. Their leader was an old hunchbacked gramma who was very active, very respected and the glue keeping the family together. I really loved her as I saw her do her thing in a manner I could reminisce and see my own Gramma in her. The young people could not keep up with her. lol
I remember a story my Gramma told me about her Mom. She was a small woman and her husband was a very huge man cut down over night, in his prime, by fever. Never the less, she would go to the homes of her children one by one, give them hell calling them lazy and ignorant about how to do things. She'd rampage through the house putting everything in order . She mended cooked cleaned gardened, canned and when she was satisfied the house was in order, she'd leave and go to the next child's house. lol My Gramma said nothing was secret with her. but no one ever said a word to her because she commanded respect. lol In fact they trembled when she would enter the door because they knew they were not up to par to her perfection. The day for her, was an 18 hour day. Today, we have to say, thank God for technology and the washing machine.lol Thank God for the dishwasher, the stove and fridge. Thank God for the heating furnaces. All these things had to be done by hand a few generations ago. It is only because of these things, women today, have the luxury of going to work and be a little independent.
As for myself, I especially love making blankets cause they keep your legs so warm and you see the project grow. It gives you personal satisfaction to see it finished.
I was sitting in a car watching my boy play soccer so the extra warmth was appreciated.lol
Vancouver won the Stanley Cup in Football .
It was not as exciting to watch as hockey is but we brought the cup home and we needed some joy here in BC.
So Congrats BC LIONS for a good job. Well Done!!
We also have a MLS soccer struggling to get up on its feet but they don't attract very good players because they are not paying them well.
It is shameful not to put out your best players and we have many in BC who will never see the light of day.
I was not in the mood to crochet so it took me a while to finish this neck warmer but it's done lol
Once rolled down it warms the neck and unwrapped it covers the head as well.
Pretty handy if you take long walks in the woods with changing temperatures or exercising at the gym or standing in a drafty area.
I think it turned out quite good.
Oh well.
We will know when we wear it.lol When I tried it on it was very warm and snugly.
------------------------------------------------
After the North American Beer Festival, all the brewery presidents decided to go out for a beer. The guy from Corona sits down and says, "Hey Senor, would like the world's best beer, a Corona." The bartender dusts off a bottle from the shelf and gives it to him.
The guy from Budweiser says, "I'd like the best beer in the world, give me 'The King Of Beers', a Budweiser." The bartender gives him one.
The guy from Coors says, "I'd like the only beer made with Rocky Mountain spring water, give me a Coors." He gets it.
The guy from Molson sits down and says,
"Give me a Coke." The bartender is a little taken aback, but gives him what he ordered.
The other brewery presidents look over at him and ask, "Why aren't you drinking a Molson's?"
The Molson president replies, "Well, I figured if you guys aren't drinking beer, neither would I."
This is another easy project to do in an evening .
I find making crochet baskets to be quite handy since they can be all sizes for bread, fruit, peanuts, chips etc....
They look good on a table , are washable and fold so you can put them away till you need them as part of your table accessories.
I made this one big but if you want smaller ones then you can make more than one in one evening. This one still needs a few ribbons to weave around it for decoration.
It's a nice way to watch TV at night while being creative.
These were great projects cause they only took a day to make .
One day...... one item.
I used bernat and red heart thread and 5.5 crochet hook.
Now I can keep my shoulders warm.
My son likes the gray one made in boucle thread. The finished product looks like a faux persian fur.
When my son puts it on, he looks like a knight with broad shoulders.
He likes it and can't wait to wear it over his jacket when he goes out.
The other two are girly so they are for me. lol
Well I had enough crocheting for a while till the next inspiration hits me and I know it will cause this is like a drug once you get into it. There are so many nice things out there on line, that are so pretty you want to try making them. Before you know it you have a whole set of things you want to make and it will take you a lifetime and there will still be more stuff.
But it keeps your mind healthy and happy once the project is finished. Before you know it you have a collection of stuff you would not otherwise have.
This was another easy project and took no time at all since the scarf is narrow.
The head band is not big either so everything took about a day to make.
Now I am all set to go out into the wild country. lol
I am thinking to maybe find some red fleecy material and sew it into the head band and the hand warmers to make it extra warm.
In BC you need to layer because if you don't , one minute it's cold and another it's hot.
As you can see I am making my own Christmas presents.
During the year I always buy things when I see them on special thinking they would be good for someone or other. I wrap them, put a name for who it is and put them away and by Christmas time I forget myself, what is inside the boxes.
When it comes time to open gifts, I am surprised, just as much as the kids ,who don't know what's inside their boxes.
It's as if I see them for the very first time and that it really was Santa who left them under the tree.
Talk about being kookie. lol
Every year we have the same conversation about whether or not Santa exists.
The kids tell me there is no Santa and I always feel bad because then I tell them well if you don't believe, he won't come.
He wants to be appreciated for his kindness and his special spirit.
Seeing they won't get gifts, the kids come around and change their minds into believing in Santa at Christmas.
I sure miss those times now that they are all grown up.
My favorite Christmas was when my parents put me to bed, did up the tree, put presents under it and then pretended to go to bed. They blasted the radio and I jumped a foot high into the air in my bed and we all came running into the hallway. My parents pretended to be mad at me for blasting the radio and I kept rubbing my eyes and telling them I didn't do it.
Then we'd discover the tree with the presents and the magic of Christmas filled the air.
My eyes grew big thinking Santa did an awful lot of work to put up such a gorgeous tree and presents just for me.
My parents were strict but they sure made a lot of special events for me to remember all my life and this was one of them. lol
Sometimes the movie
http://www.carygrant.net/reviews/room.html
Room for One More with Cary Grant , comes to mind , cause it is also about a family who went out of their way for their children.
It was a very touching movie. They had a growing daughter who needed a special dress for the school dance and after acquiring one, her escort was not allowed to go cause his Mom did not like the little girl being an orphan, so she went with her Dad.
The little boy they took in with the legs problem , worked very hard walking in metal braces, in freezing weather, to become the top Scout, made his parents very proud of him.
They don't make movies like that anymore and families have changed a lot too.
Well these are very special memories I carry with me and probably this is why I like to make things today . Hobbies are great things to have as learning tools.
---------------------------------------------------- There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle. -- Albert Einstein ---------------------------------------------------- People are speculating now that we do have something to do with the UFO's which have been seen throughout time especially before or during disasters like tsunamis and volcano eruptions
One such UFO was seen during the Iceland eruption. Others were seens days before the eruptions in Alaska etc... Some ask are they here to help or to cause disasters killing over 200,000 people in one shot . They said it was an easy way of getting rid of the unacceptable and the weak making more room for an advanced society, built genetically better than what they had before.
The Bible, they said, states man was created in Gods' image and so, as we do now with genetic manipulation, maybe we were created as well before for no one knows how it is man came to be, to this very day. They say it cannot be, that from cave dwelling, man suddenly jumped to building pyramids and that Leonardo da Vinci (and others like him), had such visions of submarines and arms we use to day, he drew on paper way back in his time when such things were inconceivable. Someone put those ideas into his head.
Maybe they got tired of man and wiped out most, with Noah, to leave 3000 throughout the world to begin again and maybe they are getting ready to do this again as the Mayan Calendar predicted in Dec. 2012 to make room for a more perfect man. Some say man is already part alien and part human.
Throughout time, pictures of aliens and ships and battles have been drawn on cave walls suggesting that there might be a battle going on between good and bad angels. and this is why God is supposed to come and once and for all end this battle so peace can reign.
I'd say we are in for some interesting times ahead but I am not so sure I want to see it. I so I pray for the future generations.
My son said, you should not complain about kids and violence because it was your generation which did this. Your generation does dope, and promotes sex, and violence on TV. etc..
We promote freedom over above and beyond what is acceptable behavior and the kids are affected because we trample all over their world with our lobby and pressure groups ignoring the fact that they are entitled to a kids world. Its their human right.
Pretty soon it will be a human right freedom even to kill, because laws will not work anymore. As it is, they do not work. Laws are good only in so far as people want to and understand, that they are good for them and have good will to obey.
Today we punish our kids at home for things and then they see a person robs or vandalizes a store, then gets a lawyer to justify his reason to do so and gets off.
These are bad lessons for kids to learn. These are lessons teaching kids they do not have to obey because the law is not on their side. So many good families lose their kids to schools, pressure groups, friends, lobbyists and tv's... all different and immoral ideas and way of life etc... people cannot defend their kids from.
No matter how much we try, there is someone who rocks the boat and destroys good things people worked hard to obtain, like freedom.
Every one seems to forget, that to have freedom is a privilege, an earned thing, not a guaranteed thing. To have freedom, requires a good, educated mind, devoid of brain cell destruction. Freedom also has to work in tune with laws, every one agrees with because they understand that this is the right thing to do.
I was expressing my views as to why, his otherwise very nice school friend, my son grew up with, went and killed a nice girl he didn't know, for no reason. What suddenly triggered this violence from him?
Now, although he pleaded guilty to First degree Murder, teachers will be asked to go to court to testify, I would assume on his behalf. Out of all the rowdy boys from High School, he was the least expected to commit such a crime. He never did anything bad and seemed to blend into the walls.
And of course I do not want to even touch upon how the other side feels except to say that all the grief you felt for the girls' family, balances out, when you see the behavior of the Father.
You automatically think the innocent daughter, paid with her life, through a random act of violence, for the sins of the Father. One always asks.. why this girl and not some other who did something bad? Those two kids were both innocents.
Did Laura's Dad learn anything? Well he said he hopes the other family now feels how he does losing a child, so no, I don't think so. The boys' family I know personally and so I know they are devastated. How would they not be? The Dad got the confession out of his son and he was the reason the police arrested the boy.
The girls' Father talks, as if the park his daughter was killed in, belongs to him and he will sit and wait for people with bats there. This is trouble waiting to happen because the park is a baseball park as well as football and soccer. Of course no one believes he will do it. It was just grief talking but it sure speaks a lot about our society. Violence begets violence. Every one wishes the worst things to happen to this boy in jail. And now that he's done this, can he ever be trusted to be free in this world? His life is over.
So to keep hope and balance in the world, we only have a merciful God to depend on and his teachings of love and forgiveness to prevail. With each day that passes, I find people need to pay attention so as to make it easier and nicer for our children to grow. Laws and government can't do this because these are personal issues. We are adults and we are here to teach our children through example. Regardless of human rights and freedom, I believe every adult knows what the right and wrong thing to do is and if he doesn't, he should be taught.
This is the kind of quality time I have with my children.lol This is why parents have to be there to explain things as they crop up. It's always a push and pull and I'd like to think that so far, my husband and I are winning :)
The throw above was so easy to finish. I already had the middle green part done with my knitting machine, which took no time at all. So I only worked on the edging and sewed on the light green chain all around for contrast.
I made it so it could be used as a shawl as well as a throw since the edging can be turned over for those cold mornings sitting by the computer lol Its quite long as you can see so it covers all body sizes. Being chilly all the time, I like to have these things hanging around to wrap up in and so do my guys when they watch TV or sitting in the car. Now I had enough of knitting and will put everything away for a while.
------------------------------------------------
How does the queen bee fix her hair? She uses a honey comb! -------------------------------------------------
Three year old son Scott had thin fly-away hair, so his mother often wet it to comb it into place. One morning as she applied water and slicked his hair back , she announced it was time for him to get another haircut. "Mom." Scott replied, "If you'd quit watering it so much, it wouldn't grow so fast!" ----------------------------------------------------- A man was driving along the highway, and saw a rabbit hopping across the middle of the road. He swerved to avoid hitting the rabbit, but unfortunately the rabbit jumped in front of the car and was hit. The driver, being a sensitive man as well as an animal lover, pulled over to the side of the road, and got out to see what had become of the rabbit. Much to his dismay, the rabbit was dead. The driver felt so awful, he began to cry. A woman driving down the highway saw the man crying on the side of the road and pulled over. She stepped out of her car and asked the man what was wrong. "I feel terrible," he explained, "I accidentally hit this rabbit and killed it." The woman told the man not to worry. She knew what to do. She went to her car trunk, and pulled out a spray can. She walked over to the limp, dead rabbit, and sprayed the contents of the can onto the rabbit. Miraculously the rabbit came to life, jumped up, waved its paw at the two humans and hopped down the road. 50 yards away the rabbit stopped, turned around, waved and hopped down the road, another 50 yards, turned, waved and hopped another 50 yards. The man was astonished. He couldn't figure out what substance could be in the woman's spray can!! He ran over to the woman and asked, "What is in your spray can? What did you spray on that rabbit?" The woman turned the can around so that the man could read the label. It said: "Hair spray. Restores life to dead hair and adds a permanent wave." -----------------------------------------------------------------
May you all ride the big wave, feel the breeze and breathe the salty air of life.
Sometimes watching TV can be rewarding. As long as your hands are busy funny things happen.
Your stock grows.... and grows.....and grows. Before you know it, bureaus get full of your own made stuff and one day they will make great personal gifts.
The little green yellow and off white hat was already nationalized by my son He loves it lol It is done with both knitting and crocheting. but I have to finish the scarf that goes with it. It needs a few more rows to get the length I want. It is also green but I cannot find the right shade of green for it, so it is WAY behind schedule.
I do these projects with left over thread But then, like with the green hat, I will have again a lot of left over thread from another roll I need to buy to finish the scarf It will be enough to make another hat and scarf set with . And so it goes.......
It took a lot of time to do the appliques and to put the squares together.
But its done and can be used for a twin or childs' bed. or even a normal bed for decoration. You can't see the true colors but they are very bright. What is good about this project is that if you ever want to continue it to make it larger, you can.
So now that's another project I can put away for a rainy day. Have a good one.:)
These little buggers were sooo much fun to make. I almost felt bad when I ran out of squares.
I began making random squares for a blanket. I saw Michaels asking people to throw some into their outdoor box to make blankets for the poor, but mine were not 8x8. Seeing I didn't have enough for a blanket I decided I would try something else and ended up with these.
All you do is sew up the squares and then if you want to make them soft warm souls just crochet another small patch to sew on the bottom.
I have a lot of them and even added a few for grown ups Very handy to give as gifts and to keep for visitors when they visit. Also when you visit some one just pop them into your purse.
I noticed the nice ballerina type purse slippers I always used to buy for a few bucks in the store to put into your purse to wear in other peoples homes sell for 32 dollars today. Oh well mine are much better, much cheaper, softer and warmer.
This is one project that I have been working on. It was to be a present for my Son.
I love to do things for my Family . I like to leave things for them to remember me by, having things from my own Gramma I treasure to this day. I picture her doing them and I know my kids will do the same.
As it happens, this throw will be even more memorable. I finished it the day His High School won the Provincials I will write more about this on another post.
Hope you enjoy the throw The pattern is so easy and enjoyable to do. I made 45 blocks, one color at a time. 45 yellows, 45 reds, etc.. I used 40 for the throw and then two blocks(for front and back) for each pillow I made two pillows. It worked out fine. I have one block left for good luck which will probably throw me into beginning another throw with. lol
Most of the other stuff is for girls. As you can see I wish to have a little girl since I love making dresses and LITTLE girls love wearing them. They all look so cute you want to gobble them up.:)
This blanky is for a boy. I am quite proud of it as well. It looks great in a crib.
Instead of buying a crib I used an elephant chair for a new born, which later can be transformed into a very nice living room table by putting a glass top over it. Also if you have visitors with babies, they can use it as well anytime, since it's easy to take a top off a table. An Elephant chair is also a great topic of discussion. Not too many kids have Elephant Chairs for beds. :)
I am on the first green part at the bottom of the page and it seems to get wider there.
They start you off with 135 stitches then seems to increase to 202 stitiches at the part I am at now. I hope it doesn't increase more. Maybe it will decrease once you do some other gathering thingy.
I didn't read through the pattern. I am just going line by line.
The colors are very pretty so I couldn't resist not making it. It needs a yellow duck now. lol
