Roam this Land With Me.

Andy Williams Sings the words what the eyes and the heart feels.

We partake in the miracle of birth, with senses to see and feel the power and beauty of nature.
Why else would our spirits thrive ? We seek it every where.
From the brightest star to the minute microbe under a microscope.
We want to see and know it all.

Man was created both weak and strong, so he is humbled before forces stronger than he
and yet strives to conquer, teaching himself, to persevere and never surrender.

We were born to learn and achieve, protect and survive, inherit and donate to this planet,
the birth Mother of us all.
What a beautiful Mother we have, to nurture us and punish us as she sees fit.
We love her ability to understand what has to be done to survive. She is vibrant, alive.

Her spirit overflows with color and light and for a short time, we are privileged to witness her miracle,
as we roam this land, feeding our souls.

Have a wonderful day! :)

Around Kingfisher Oceanside Resort.

They were trying to make everything look a part of the environment.
Even the grass felt mossy and very soft.
The gardeners said it rains a lot and there is a harsh wind that comes in from the ocean.

This is the Kingfisher Oceanside Resort Hotel.
When we arrived it didn't look like this picture.
I believed the whole front building wasn't there and we were in the residences behind the little square house which had the heated pool.
The front of the building was a level lower and we never saw it.
The grounds were meticulously taken care of but the building from the entrance looked a bit shabby.
The rooms were very nice, but I found the mattresses hard to sleep on.
the restaurant served wonderful food.
When we tried to leave the room we found out the lock was broken and although it locked, the door was easily opened with a small push so we had to move to another room.
They were very nice about that.

This was our view from our room. The sliding door opened to a nice patio with chairs to sit on.
The air was very fresh and cool. It had a wonderful feeling to it.
This is the first hotel which asked its guests to drink their tap water.
So we did and it was very tasty water.

This was a nice gazebo beside the pool to have tea in and enjoy
Can you believe there was another building in front? You just see the ocean.

They were trying to make everything look a part of the environment.
Even the grass felt mossy and very soft.
The gardeners said it rains a lot and there is a harsh wind that comes in from the ocean.

Another wood carving

another wood sculpture. It looks like an eye.

Entrance to the heated pool area
Stork sculpture made of wood.

It has an old tennis court out front in the entrance, sauna, fitness room, etc..
Walking around this place made you feel calm, peaceful and relaxed.
People are very nice and the view is extremely special and I just couldn't get over the air quality.
I never wanted to go back into my room and this is rare because I always like to enjoy my room. lol
Have a good one.

Fads Come and Go But Class Always Stays the Same

I always loved these cars. I agree with her.
Too bad the new cars are full of technology but have no class.

This lady is 101 years old and still changes the oil and spark plugs on her car.
Something to be said about being able to do this. Today the cars are so high tech, one needs a computer to figure them out. What happens if you break down in the middle of no where.
No way to get the thing running again.

She keeps her beauty very clean as can be seen by the towel she steps on to get inside.

In Tsawwassen on Sundays, some people bring their cars to the grocery store parking lot.
People have a chance to buy a car, RV, or boat from the owner, at a cheaper price.
Others bring in their classics to show off and for others to admire.
Sometimes even they are put up for sale.

The problem with old cars is the gas.
The engines use leaded gas.
I am not sure if unleaded works for them.

But nothing beats an old , well maintained car like this one, with white rimmed tires and chrome.
Now that's Class!!

Save the Spirit Bear

Video with Kevin Bacon

www.savethespiritbear.org

I am following Sandy's cue to help save the spirit bears in British Columbia.

The above link has an email to send to the CEO of Enbridge Co asking him not to put a pipe line where so many animals are at risk of dying. The company has a history of oil spills.

The animals have no where else to go and they live here.
Bears whales salmon wolves etc....
Right now its beautiful and clean.

Without a place to live the animals come to man and we end up having to kill them.
This is wrong!!!!

Every one is welcome to send an email to help save this bear's land.
So far its mainly BC that was trying to save it but we need the world.
This is a place your children and their children will one day come to see and what a beautiful place it is to see. Lets leave it pristine, wild and free.
Thanks

Half Breed by Maria Campbell

Half Breed by Maria Campbell is a nice easy 156 page book.
It got you interested from the get go with Louis Riel and how everything he did was misconstrued.
Finally the Metis are fighting back and taking pride in who they are.

When I was in College one Humanities Teacher asked the class:
Where do you find yourself?
Most of the kids pointed to their heads and I pointed to my Heart.
I think I was the only one in the class who did this.

Then he informed us that white people usually find themselves in their heads and Am Indians in their hearts and the Chinese in their stomachs.
I guess all my excursions on the river turned me into a free spirit lol
because I could truly relate and love these people.
Her great Grand Mother had second sight met this naturalist man from England, who pretended to be Grey Owl, a Red Indian.

The Indians knew Grey Owl was not an Indian but he was accepted by them because they knew he wanted to be. They found him amusing lol.
These are very special people in the way they behave and believe in things.

Reading this book and the experiences this woman Maria had, reminds me of things that happened in Quebec, although the story takes place in BC , Alberta and Saskatchewan.

I found page 72 very special, where Maria spoke with her Cree Great Grand Mother Cheechum, who lived to be 104 years of age,
so beautiful and right on the nose.
I couldn't have said it better myself.

Cheechum kept the grand daughter believing that things would change for the better.
I loved that Grand Mother.

It's a great read if any one is interested in a good, true, personal story.

It's funny cause my dogs name was Cheechen or Cheechpeach as I called him and he was my best friend. He is the one I swam the river with and who protected me from dogs who would attack bicycle riders and accompanied me on my 10 km rides.
He loved his freedom, as all animals and people do.
I never knew the Cree had names similar to this.
I also learned about a Canadian food called Bannock made by Indians and new settlers when flour was not easily come by.
Usually if they used flour it was to thicken pemmican soup, rubbaboo, or to make galettes.
Galettes otherwise known as bannock.
Tiger's Bannock (tried and true)

Ingredients:

    1 cup white flour
    1/4 tsp. salt
    1 tsp baking powder
    1 tablespoon butter or margarine
1/3 cup or more cold water
Directions: Mix dry ingredients thoroughly then rub in butter until well incorporated. Add enough water to make a thick dough. Form into 1-inch thick cakes and place in the bottom of a greased cast iron frying pan. Cook on low heat until done on both sides, or prop the pan in the coals of the campfire. For a variety add dry fruits, raisins, blueberries, etc. Taste especially good with molasses and butter when done. For pancakes, simply add a couple of eggs, omit the butter and substitute water for milk. For native style use half white flour and half corn flour. To avoid the mess when clean up is a problem, measure out individual portions into a Ziploc and knead until done.

The Book was published by University of Nebraska Press
Lincoln and London

Have a good one :)

Skipper Taking Care of Business

This is Skipper taking care of his tuna business He knows his rights and is man of his domain
He was such a cute character that so many people paid attention to him instead of the two handsome sailors on the boat who were clearly jealous they were not getting the same attention.

You always get a feeling of whole someness seeing people animals and life working together.
Life at sea must be the best life in the world.
I remember when my Dad had a boat we could sleep in and we'd take it out a bit into the river and slept listening to the bull frogs. I never forgot it.
Then at 4 am it was easy to drop a line and catch breakfast which we then went on shore to fry over a nice fire.
One always wonders why people, having nice clean homes, spend so much money to go sit in the dirt with the mosquitoes and charcoal from wood fires.
It's because no matter how great life is at home, man's spirit longs to be wild, free
and natural.

Charlie's Chocolate Factory

This is Charlie and I have to say I love him.
I have never had so much fun going to a chocolate factory, the likes of his.
He has a river of chocolate flowing to entertain children and Willy Wonka, from the movie, probably got his idea from Charlie here, in Burnaby, BC.

What is more fun is that you can see the chocolate being made in front of you and you can order
your own logos and designs for weddings, valentines and even Chinese New Year which is coming real soon on the 4th of February.

You can even rent a fountain, flowing chocolate ,for your guests to dip their own straw berries in, for good luck.

Charlie is in his 80's . He will always be known for his kind, fun loving spirit and I think he makes coming to BC one of life's pleasures.

Ever since I visited his place some odd years ago with my sons' class, I can never forget the experience and if you come to BC, this sure is a place to stop to have a look see.

I mean, anything your heart desires, can be found here in chocolate. His employees must have a ball coming to work each day. I know his customers do especially if this man is there to greet them.
Charlie really makes a difference in the selling of Chocolate .
I wish him all the best!!!
:)

Charlie has a new factory up in Coquitlam as well as Burnaby.

=========================================

“It's not that chocolates are a substitute for love. Love is a substitute for chocolate. Chocolate is, let's face it, far more reliable than a man.”
Miranda Ingram

Chocolate causes certain endocrine glands to secrete hormones that affect your feelings and behavior by making you happy. Therefore, it counteracts depression, in turn reducing the stress of depression. Your stress-free life helps you maintain a youthful disposition, both physically and mentally. So, eat lots of chocolate!”

All the Streets Are Ploughed and The Sky is Gray

One thing that is good about Whistler is that the snow plows do their work.
The streets are clean and you still have the beautiful view of the heavy snow clad trees and peaceful quiet people so yearn to have around them.

Christmas was spoiled for one family from Cali though this year.
They went down hill as a family and their 20 year old son steered off the path and they couldn't find him when they reached bottom. A search was made which had to be stopped when it got too dark and continued in the morning, at which point, they found the young man dead by the creek.
No one knows if he wore a helmet.
I asked my son where this creek is and he said way off the path and he saw no reason why the boy should end up there.
He said even in the gondola which hovers 1,500 overhead, one would not be able to see him there unless maybe if he wore extremely bright colors.
All he could see around the creek area were logs.

So how did the 20 year old make this mistake to go in that direction?
Did the snow blind his view of the path?
I guess we will never know but this makes it even more important to ski or snow board in groups and keep your eyes on one another.

Many mountains have the path cordoned off so people do not go off course but Whistler has too much ground to cover and maybe they do not do this, so people have to be very careful.

I found out that they do sell ski jackets equipped with GPS devices in the sleeve which can
help search and rescue track you. Sorta like a dog wearing a chip under the skin lol

I think it is a great idea and in this case, would have helped locate the lad sooner than they did and maybe saved his life.

A tragedy occurred Christmas of Dec 2010 and condolences must be sent to the family, devastated
by the loss of a son, while the world was celebrating the birth, of the son of God.
Is there a meaning here?

This is BC.
Beautiful, wild and dangerous.
Generous and greedy.
Loved, cried and died over.
Free and restricted
Plentiful and lean.

Whatever you are looking for,
You will find it here.
And if nothing else, the local stories will
definitely keep you entertained.

Winter Play Ground

This is a great shot taken of snow boarders enjoying a day of peace and beauty in clean
white beautiful quiet surroundings.
It's just you and the swishing of your board on the snow.
What a great life!

After begging my son to stick to skiis, snow boarding with his friends became something else he wanted to try and do. I should be happy since it gets him away from soccer but I still prefer skiis to snow boards lol.

The kids, loaded the van and went up to Mt Seymour, since I told them this is my favorite mountain for safety purposes but it turned out Mt Seymour was not ready and snow bound so my van got stuck up there and the kids decided they were going to try another mountain. So they headed on to Grouse.

When learning to ski, my son just got on the skiis and took off without a glitch but it took him a bit to relearn with the snow board.
He managed to get it quickly and knowing how concerned I was about him snow boarding, he made sure to put on a show, telling me he hurt his foot when he got back, knowing I'd be upset.

Well then of course it wasn't true, so they got into the details of their day and how much fun they had.How many times he fell, how hard the snow hit his face and required a ski mask and of course never without a helmet at the speed you go. I reminded him that if he can't seem to miss a tree to make sure he does not go into it head first. lol All tips kids today don't need because they already know everything . :)

Grouse was also inundated with snow. They have a lift to get up there and the view is so nice for even those like myself who do not ski anymore.
Unfortunately they did not take pictures so I am not able to show any. They also give buggy rides on Grouse, and the boys said they even saw some deer.

It's a place where they even speak of a few bears hanging around. So one needs to be able to ski or snow board fast to get away lol.

I told them in Scandinavian countries they have deer races, whereby you attach a reindeer to reins and it pulls you on skiis.
What fun this can be as well. Now this is something I'd love to try myself.
BC should look into it since we have ample deer living around here.

Ahh! Nice to be young. People should never age so they have a chance to try everything there is to try in life. Nothing like having your soul rejuvenated and spiced up with a little harmless sport, fresh air and solemn quiet beauty.
Just hearing the stories made me feel like I was right there with them.:)

Vancouver and BC in general has a lot to offer in terms of mountains and things to do on them, all year round.
Grouse, Cypress, Seymour and Whistler are the best known but we have so many others to attract all kind of people for tobboganing, skating, cross country skiing.
The sky is the limit.

BC, is natures' way of giving us a glimpse of what heaven looks like.
Absolutely breathtaking!
It is also wild. You can see it in the eyes of flourishing Eagles perching overhead with 8 foot wing spans and in the eyes of other animals of prey who need to hunt to survive and have no set rules to live by.

Hope you come out and see for yourselves one day. It's an experience you will never forget.
:)

A Priest was about to finish his tour of duty, and was leaving his Mission

in the jungle where he has spent years teaching the natives when he

realizes that the one thing he never taught them was how to speak English.

So he takes the chief for a walk in the forest. He points to a tree and

says to the chief, 'This is a tree.'

The chief looks at the tree and grunts, 'Tree.'

The Priest is pleased with the response. They walk a little further and he

points to a rock and says, 'This is a rock.'

Hearing this, the chief looks and grunts, 'Rock.'

The Priest was really getting enthusiastic about the results when he hears

a rustling in the bushes. As they peek over the top, he sees a couple of

natives in the midst of heavy sexual activity.

The Priest is really flustered and quickly responds, 'Man riding a bike.'

The chief looks at the couple briefly, pulls out his blowgun and kills them.

The Priest goes ballistic and yells at the chief that he has spent years

teaching the tribe how to be civilized and be kind to each other, so how

could he kill these people in cold blood that way?

The chief replied, 'My bike.'

TRUE NORTH STRONG AND FREE

BC is a part of the True North Strong and Free
Where ever you look , you see wilderness.
Wild flowers, Wild grasses, wild plains and lakes.
One can still feel the excitement, freedom and fear that our forefathers felt,
Seeing something totally breath takingly pristine and untouched ,
Cool breezes from snowy mountain peaks
touched their cheeks, while a scorching sun hit their backs.
Nothing changed there.
With the cheeky coons, beaver and squirrels visiting,
as well as the odd , wide pawed bear and snarling cougar,
one can almost understand why man has a call
for the wild.
It is here, facing the elements, that one finds his
true self worth and understands what true love means.
True love, once found, can never be walked away from.
There are no lies here, for you either learn to survive or die.
Every tree, stone and mist has a story to tell.
and no one can tell it better.

We call this place, the True North Strong and Free.
One needs to be strong to survive and free to be able to move from one place to another
as the buffalo and caribou do.

There is no place like it anywhere and there never will be.

Christina Lake

I got pictures from Christina Lake and told everyone, this is such a beautiful place.

Today we found out, a woman there, was feeding dog food to bears, by her place deep in the woods, to keep people away from her marijuana grow op.

The police went to check on the bear problem and found it loll

So she is arrested and now they are worried about bears becoming aggressive because they are not going to be fed by her

They may have to shoot them. They say maybe at the trial she will say she had the grow op to get money to feed the bears. The bears are docile and happy and the police were laughing.

Bears are misunderstood. They just say: "Feed me." loll

Cashew Nut Case. 2010

We took a trip to the interior of BC and apart from the breath taking beauty of this province, we found joy in the little critters which make life worth living.

Chomps here, chased his friend away so he could enjoy the cashews on his own.
I guess even in the animal world we have those who share and those who don't lol
He looked pretty healthy with a beautiful well groomed coat and he was not afraid of people
who surrounded him to take pictures.
:)
I am soooo jealous. I would die to be able to grow fingernails like this little guy has.
Mine always break. lol
